There are no separate drivers like in Cozumel. 

Really not much to drive around and see.  Beach along the malecon in Mahahual is easily reached by tram from port or taxi just outside of port.

Beach north of the cruise port about 1/2 hour is for cruise ship tours.

 

Mayan ruins are 45-65 minutes away and best accessed via tour.

Blue Lagoon as well.

 

If however, you'd like to have someone take you around anyway, when you exit the port parking lot, find the taxi stand and ask for Captain Charlie.  He runs the dispatch and can help find you a good driver to take you around .
