We are cruising it of NOLA and plan to park at the port. We are wanting to stay another day after the cruise but wanting to explore a bit before we check into the hotel. (Check in is 3pm). Can we continue to keep our car parked at the port or do they not allow that? We are planning on doing the hop on hop off bus and it has a stop right at the port.

It's been a few  years, on our cruise out of New Orleans we were off the ship and on the way to our car probably by 9:30 a.m. with our luggage.     We wanted to leave our car and walk around N.O. a while and asked one of the guys in that lot and he told us he could give us a couple of hours to stay in the lot, but that was it that normally they didn't do that.  That they needed to move all the cars out of the lot we were in so that the new cruisers could park their car.   So, we put the stuff in the car, walked around just right there and went back.  By the time we went back, they were loading new cars in that area and the guy was not pulling our leg or anything.  I thought maybe since we paid till that day we could keep it there till that afternoon but not so.  Now, granted, that has been like 4 years I think.

Are you staying in the downtown/french quarter area? If so I would go ahead and move the car there. I park at hotels there as early as 10am. They always let me park even if the room isn't ready yet...sometimes they have rooms ready early as well.

We actually don't have a hotel reserved yet. Coming in we are staying in Hammond LA and thought about staying there again so it wasn't quite as expensive as staying in New Orleans.

In that case you want to try to stay parked or move it to a cheaper lot. I just looked for next Sunday and I see the lot I parked in for the Krewe of Jingle parade last december for $4. I put in 10am-5pm.  I use the parking panda app.
