TP Crossing May ‘19 - Weather?

Recommended Posts

Would appreciate any input on weather during TP crossing (Berring Sea) during early May.  What kind of temps and sea conditions did you experience? TYIA

We did the transpacific in April/May of 2018. Petropavlovsk, Russia was in the low forties very cold with all the snow on the ground. Definitely glad we took gloves and hats. A lot of snow piled up but not on the streets and sidewalks. We did have snow on the ship, a first for us. Enough that all the deck chairs on the pool deck were covered. It was cold all the way over.

The sea was calm no storms. Was kind of surprised that it was that smooth.

We had virtually the same experience during May of 2017 Tokyo to Vancouver... very calm all the way, but a bit chilly for sure.

really helpful info here, as we will be on the Millenium TP this April 27, and have no clue what kind of clothes to pack!  Were most people dressed in winter clothes, such as sweaters?  Just cannot figure out what to wear during the day on sea days, as don’t expect we’ll spend much time on deck if it’s really cold.  What was the temperature like onboard in inside areas?  Thanks everyone!

Around the ship, we generally wore jeans and shirts with light shirts, and carried/wore a sweater or hoodie.  Some areas of the ship were warmer than others, so having an extra layer we could put on or remove was most helpful.  Though it was chilly outside, we occasionally would put on a couple of warmer layers and step out to enjoy the fresh air, especially during the inside passage the last day or two before arriving in Vancouver.

Thanks to all of you for both your questions, and your answers. We’re booked on a future (spring) Japan/TP b2b, and I’d just begun to wonder about the weather🙂

Hello,

we did that crossing few years back. We are used to transat but TP. So I asked one of the officer if at some point it would get warmer... (like a kicking Gulf stream)... the answer? It's freaking Siberia Vana...

that's says it all...  😉

Ps I always take a picture of my feet with the pool in sight... well I did... running shoes on and plaid cover...
