Dominica post hurricane

Was there this January (2019).  Also, we have been there pre-storm.  Even before the storm, Dominica is what the Caribbean used to be.....No Diamonds International, no fancy shopping....just a lovely island.

Considering what they went through....they are recovering well.  By next January (2020) it will be even further along.

We were quite impressed with how far they have come back.  GO and enjoy it.  Spend a few dollars there.....That is how we can all help.

It's a wonderful island with warm lovely people.  Best whale watching we have had in the Caribbean is in Dominica.  Also the river rafting is also lots of fun there.  Great local guides with you on the river!

IMHO, I would look for an itinerary that includes Dominica!

We were there in December and Roseau and that area of the island seemed to be recovering well. There were some roads still not repaired on the way to our river tubing excursion, but they were recovering nicely. It’s a beautiful island, so definitely go and take a tour to see the waterfalls and other areas.

“Would you recommend River tubing over seeing the falls and the gorge?  I am not sure all that can be done in one day? “

It depends on how long your ship is in port.  We were in port 8 - 5 and did a combination tour that included river tubing, a visit to Mero Beach with time for lunch and Trafalgar Falls. We had plenty of time, did not feel rushed and were back to the ship at least an hour before departure time. We used Antours and were very satisfied with the tour and service. They offer several options of tours that should fit what most are looking for. Here is a link to their page with the different options that include river tubing:

thank you JT. I am thinking then that the key decision is choosing between river tubing and swriiming through the gorge. Good to know that you could enjoy multiple stops in addition to the tubing. How large was the group when you went with Antours?

I believe there were a total of 7 or 8. The driver actually dropped several off in town after the river tubing and beach on the way to Trafalgar Falls. So only 4 went to the falls.
