Florida Sunpass

FYI - the PeachPass in GA also works with all FL Sunpass booths.  The transponder is just a small RFID sticker that goes below your rear view mirror.

There is an initial cost of $20 to open the account, however that gets applied as toll credit as soon as you activate, making the system zero cost to set up.  You can manage the account via iOS and order multiple stickers for all the vehicles in your family.

The EZ Pass network is gradually making inroads into Florida.  My understanding is several toll roads in the Orlando area now accept EZ Pass, in addition to the Florida E-Pass / SunPass.

EZ Pass is not accepted on the Florida's Turnpike south of Orlando, and is not accepted on the I-95 Express toll lanes in Broward and Miami-Dade.  And not accepted on several SW Florida bridges.

The separate toll authorities in FL, of which there are 7, IIRC, adopted different protocols for transponders, and have different local service centers.  Governor Rick Scott imposed rules requiring the authorities to share certain features, and allow interoperability among the FL issuers. Since the collapse of the billing system in 2018, Florida SunPass billing has been erratic.

the thing to be careful about with EZ-PASS around Orlando: if you look carefully at the places it is accepted .... it is not accepted for the full length of the particular road/highway so where you get on/off can make a big difference ..... Of particular note to cruisers is the section of 528 eat of 520: the only toll in this section is at the exit to 520 from 528 .... east of 520 (all the way to the port) there are no more tolls!  For MOST folks going from the airport (MCO) to PC the last toll will be DALLAS - still west of 520!

clarification .. the toll only applies when exiting 528 heading west to 520

on 528 east, the ramp to 520 has no toll . . .
