Train from Rome airport to Civi

Recommended Posts

Good Morning Friends:

We will be arriving to Rome a day prior to boarding NCL Pearl in July. Would like to take the train from airport to port if Civi. A friend who took the cruise last year, took a bus to termini station and transfer to train. I’m trying to figure out if there is a direct train from airport to port. Appreciate any guidance!

There is no direct train from the airport (I'm assuming you mean FCO).

You can do what your friend did via bus to Termini and then the train, or you can take a local train (FL1) to Trastevere and then switch to a train going to Civitavecchia.

You could also take an express train from the airport to Termini and transfer there, but it's a larger station and would involve significantly more walking to get to the right tracks.

It also takes more time and more money to go all the way to Termini only to turn around and leave again, retracing your tracks (so to speak) heading out to Civitavecchia.

The train is the least expensive way to travel to Civitavecchia from the airport but it requires that you are comfortable dealing with your luggage on and off two trains, willingness to stand all or part of the way if the trains are crowded, and the ability to walk down and up a full flight of stairs at Civitavecchia to get from the train to the station.

You can buy your way out of some of the potential discomfort by going out of the way to Termini in order to take a seat reserved Frecce train to Citivavecchia.  This increases your cost by about 10 - 15 euro per person but even then it's less expensive than the other alternatives.
