Surprising kids with cruise on Sunrise

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine did this once with her kids.  The kids had NEVER been on a cruise and they really didn't know a thing about them.  So she packed suitcases for them, woke them up at the crack of dawn and told them to get in the car.  They handed them a clue to read to figure out what their next "stop" would be, the first stop was the airport.  Of course their guesses were completely wrong and (some) hilarious...grandmas house, Disneyland, the mall, the grocery store, Canada, etc.  Their oldest daughter (who was about 10) kept a video diary of them reading the clues at each stop, trying to figure out what was going on and where they were going.  ZERO idea what was happening, those poor kids didn't figure out a single clue.  The video diaries showed them going to the airport, going to their hotel for the night before the cruise, sitting on their hotel balcony and trying to guess what city they were in, getting into a cab for the port, and finally standing on the sidewalk in front of the port with the GIGANTIC ship right behind them...and they still had no idea what was happening.  My friend posted the port video on FB with the caption, "Guys...just look behind you, already..."  It was hilarious.   The older daughter was giving a running commentary at the port, "So we're in a pretty long line.  I don't think we're at an airport though...but everyone has lots of luggage...I don't know what a port is, but we're in one."

We surprised our girls with a cruise over Christmas a couple years ago. We wrapped some extra packages for them to open Christmas morning with small gifts, like sun glasses, goggles and notes telling them where to look for the next gift.  All the notes had little hints as to what we were doing, but they didn't quite figure it out until they opened the  last present that had their boarding passes.  The looks on their faces was priceless!  It was so much fun!

We are doing the same thing with our 11 year old son! This is our first cruise and he has recently been asking if we will ever be able to take one. He knows we are going on vacation in May to the “beach” but has no clue that beach will be in the Bahamas! It will also be a couple weeks before before his birthday. We are so excited!!
