I know that P&O will send your embarkation time when tickets are issued etc but what is usual time for embarking, we are staying locally the previous night as we live in the north of England, and it's a relaxing way to start your holiday.Also is there food available on board when you get on the ship?

Embarkation is roughly noon to 3pm.  Most people want to board early so there is a rush first thing.  Your boarding documentation gives an embarkation time slot, however you can try to board earlier than that if you wish.  They tend to prioritise people who arrive at the official allocated time. If you are passed over,  a longer wait might be encountered at the terminal.

 

You can eat as soon as you board and typically the buffet is open.  Most newer people tend to overdo luncheon and this ruins your main evening dinner to some extent.

However early you arrive those in suites, mini suites and higher tiers of the Peninsular Club will embark first. My experience is if you are not in any of the above then you will not get aboard until 1pm and then you will go to the buffet for lunch.
