Inside Category J Nieuw Amsterdam

We just returned from our first Holland America cruise on the Nieuw Statendam (LOVED it!!!), and are in the process of booking a July 2020 cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam.  We typically stay in ocean view cabins (though we have also done inside and verandahs over the years), but I really like the size and layout of the inside J rooms, especially as there will be 4 of us in the cabin for 12 nights!  However, I see that there are a few potential noisemakers on the deck above - BB King, the casino, etc.  Any suggestions for particular J category staterooms that are quiet?  Thank you!

Starboard side, nearer to the mid-ship elevators is good.

The BB King bandstand is on the port side of the ship. There are about 4-5 insides on port side that have a negative impact due to that nightclub, but I'm not sure of the cabin numbers. I know that a few cabins close to mid-ship are fine, and that starboard is fine, too.
If you head forward much more than half-way up that passageway, you can be impacted by the Billboard area.

The K-cabins on Main Deck, are quite far aft, but are the same size and are quiet, too, so that's another option. They are under the lower level of the dining room.

Any thoughts on room 1038?  That’s the one we have on hold, as it appears to be between the casino and BB King’s.  Right now, we pretty much have our pick of category J rooms, so I want to make sure I choose a good one & can change it, if need be!

I don't know. I do know the other side is fine, as I have been in 1043 a time or two.

I was further forward on port side; friends were a cabin or two aft, and had a terrible time. I don't remember their cabin number however.

Our first HAL cruise was on Nieuw Amsterdam 11/25/18. We had an inside cabin but it was a Spa one. You are correct to be worried about cabins beneath BB Kings. BB Kings was increditble, the best music I have ever heard on a ship, but one night around 10 pm I was going from one end of the ship to the other and ended up doing so walking on the deck below BB Kings. If the cabins had anywehre near the noise that was coming from the ceiling in the corridor those people had to be miserable if they were in their rooms trying to sleep.

I will be on the same ship in approx. 4 weeks and this is my 1st time on HAL. Care to provide any insights / recommendations / tips for someone new?

Congrats on your upcoming trip!  We have cruised extensively (this was our 18th) but, as mentioned, this was our first time with HAL.  The Nieuw Statendam was lovely!  Favorite hangout spots for us were Explorations Central, the Grand Dutch Cafe (enjoyed the Bossche Bollen and pea soup...  as well as the pancakes!), and all of the music venues.  Don’t miss the productions by the dance troupe at the World Stage.  We really, really liked the Lido Buffet - especially the freshly prepared to order stir fry at dinner!   Have a fabulous time!!

Cheezenip is sailing on the Nieuw Amsterdam, not the Nieuw Statendam. Although there are many similarities, this is a different class of ship, and does not have all the venues that the Nieuw Statendam has. For example, the Dutch Café you mentioned is not on the Nieuw Amsterdam.
The layout of the ship is different, and cabins in a comparable category are smaller on the Nieuw Statendam.

Happy you had a nice cruise!
