Southampton Cruise Terminal question

We are disembarking one ship (berth 101) and getting on another (berth 38/9) on the same day in May.
How far is it from the Southampton city cruise terminal to QEII cruise terminal?
Can we walk it?  If it's too far to walk, what would be the best way to get to the next ship?

John Bull is probably the best to answer this, as we've only been on dock 38/9 by taxi. It's not so far from City 101, but it will depend on the amount of luggage you have- you have to walk out of your first terminal and then negotiate pavements, roads etc, before turning back into the other terminal. Perhaps half a mile away?

Have a look at Southampton Terminals on Google, so you can see what I mean.

There's usually lots of taxis outside the terminals because drivers know which ships are in.

If it was me, I'd turn right when exiting the terminal and walk on the designated path towards the Holiday Inn, which is the high rise building you can see from the ship, for a coffee, and then take a taxi from there to 38. They'll order one for you at reception.

101 (City Terminal) is in the New Docks, 38/39 (QE11 Terminal) is in the Old Docks - more like a mile and a half, Jo.

It's all on level ground, but the last part is deep into the old docks along a dock road with heavy truck traffic serving the ro-ro ships, and for parts of that road you're separated from the traffic by only a yellow-painted line (zoom in on  that part).

Even docks security staff strongly advise folk to use a taxi for QE11 terminal, regardless of luggage.

Luggage might be a problem depending when you disembark (you'll be chased off after about 9am), and when you can offload your luggage at QE11 terminal - usually after about 11 - 11.30am, but sometimes there's an early bag-drop facility.

Or if you want to check out the city, buy wine or whatever, there's a left-luggage facility for cruisers at Oceans shop http://www.oceanssouthampton.com/ in the High Street. It's near the city's ancient Bargate where the newer part of the city meets the old walled city. Convenient for both the old-town sights & the modern city shopping street (Above Bar) and malls like West Quay Mall. You'll need a taxi from City terminal and another to QE 11 terminal but they'll both be inexpensive - and there's a taxi rank right outside Oceans shop.

Or if you're not planning to do anything in Southampton, Jo's suggestion of whiling away the intervening time at the Holiday Inn is a good one. It's just a 350 yard walk from City terminal

Thank you all for taking the time to give us such great advice.
Whatever we decide to do with our time in port, we will definitely be taking a taxi to get to the QE ll terminal.
With much appreciation,
Donna & Peter
