I'm still not sure I understand what the plan is for the Lagoon Retreat. Will this eventually be for Haven guests and/or Villa guests, or just Villa guests? Will there ever be a dedicated Haven area like they originally talked about? What about the Silver Palm restaurant, or did they scrap that idea? I'm look at sailings for late winter, any idea if all of the construction will be done by then?

I’m not sure anyone knows the definite plan for the lagoon. The current private beach that is open is for the small villas. I hope they allow Haven guests who haven’t reserved a villa in the larger lagoon area when it opens, as well as the restaurant. The restaurant (buffet) is currently open to villa guests. I heard a rumor that larger villas open in July, but I won’t hold my breath!

If you look at the pictures I shared earlier of the lagoon area, you can see the larger villas in progress around the lagoon.  What we were told is that they were scrapping the natural lagoon idea, and putting in a pool (like Harvest Caye) instead, as it would be easier to maintain. If I remember correctly, the restaurant would be between the two rows of villas, so maybe they're waiting to get the pool in first?

Hoping to get more photos to add to this thread by next week...am truly intrigued at watching the progress. Just hoping that the upcoming hurricane season doesn't cause any further damage or delays!

Has anyone had any experience with biting insects on GSC? I was talking to some friends over the weekend and they thought they remembered them being a nuisance when they last visited a few years ago. It's definitely something that would affect any decisions to book one of the villas.

Also any updates @amygutman :classic_biggrin:

We didn’t experience insects, but I’ve heard reports of “aggressive flies”. It sounds like they were more interested in the food, though.

We are crossing are fingers at about 6 hours to go to GSC...today (the 18th) is our GSC day and with any luck it will be sunny, wonderful, and filled with lots of photos to add to @wendy&grumpys already awesome shots.

It's my birthday AND 14th anniversary so it's a happy day already. 💝

One caveat - The internet has been fairly slow - I may have to post actual photos when we get home Sunday!

Thanks Amy. Food pics are always appreciated, if you can get any of the buffet!

Oh. My. Word. What an amazing day yesterday in GSC Villa 27...@wendy&grumpy you did not steer us wrong.

Haven't the faintest idea how to download photos and videos without internet on my phone, so I will write a review and (hopefully) include videos, photos and a really cool update on the entire island and post when we get home Sunday night / Monday night. Yes...there will be some food porn courtesy of my DH! And my son actually ate the entire cup of chocolate pudding before he figured out there were bananas inside!!

I was lucky enough to bump into one of the island managers on my way out of my massage (and wow...what an amazing setting for the spa) who gave me the 6 month, 12 and 18 month plans - including the pier construction to avoid any further tender issues.

All I can say is if you can book a villa....BOOK IT!!!!

Really looking forward to it! Thanks to this thread, I did go ahead and reserve one for for our Bliss sailing in March, so I am excited to hear about the 6/12/18 month plans.

Wait - you found bananas in the pudding?! Ours didn't even have a hint of banana flavor! LOL!

Has anyone seen any of the drink menus from GSC? Are they just the same standard drink menus from the ship?

The Bacardi bar set right on the beach has... You guessed it! Bacardi drinks only!  There are other bars that offer more...

While we wait with bated breath for Amy's report, another question - do you have to be in the Haven to book these Villas? I will say that these new villas helped compel me to book a cruise I was on the fence about.

Yes, they are in the new Haven area.

Question for someone who has had a villa--- do they have a safe in them, or somewhere we could lock up credit cards, phones, etc, while we're out in the water or wandering around?  We have a villa booked during our sailing on the Sun in August, super excited!!!! Thanks!!

It looks like they do now. Just saw this video walkthrough and there is clearly a safe in the closet:

I have a suite (not a haven) and I booked one. (unless all suites are Haven suites)

No, not all suites are Haven suites. I keep forgetting about the older ships. Suites do have the same access at GSC as Haven cabins though. 🙂

Suites and Haven guests can book - When they open the larger area, the rumor is that if there are unsold villas 7 days before a sailing, then anyone can book.

I figured out how to upload videos and photos...but we are currently headed home in a massive storm and i'm thinking that the way the night is looking, the family and I will be spending some quality time trying to keep supper down. Boat is rocking so bad the flowers just flew off the table.

Looking through my hubby's buffet photos, clearly he was super excited as nearly all of his food photos are super blurry. However - the buffet photos are lovely. And yes...there were slices of bananas in the chocolate pudding. DH said it was "amazing".

We are on Aug 9 sailing on the Sun, in a sail away inside room, and we were able to book a villa

Definitely a safe - and oddly enough it was larger than the safe in our room on the ship!

I posted two villa videos from last week which do show the safe....

  • 3 weeks later...

Visited the villas on Tuesday.  Wonderful time (we had #27).  There are 16 open right now and start at 24

Met a lot of really friendly people.  Bar staff were delivering beer by the six pack in the drink package and mixed drinks.  Food really good and no waiting.  They do need a faucet to clean off your feet after you come off the beach.
