Another tragic event on a cruise.

Recommended Posts

Reports of a young man going over board on the Carnival Spirit has had the ship miss Noumea and search for the missing man. I feel for the family and friends travelling with him, such a sad thing to happen.

From AIS it looks like they got fairly close to Noumea before turning around  going quite a ways back and are now circling in an area

Wonder what caused the person to go over board.

That is likely the area where he was last seen onboard or at least where the currents may have taken him. A sad cruise day for all.

I do not think speculation is appropriate but we all know that there is only two ways for this to happen.

I haven't heard anything else about this incident. I assume that the young man was never found. So sad.

Latest news is that search was discontinued, the person did it intentionally, and the sailing is now continuing.

That is what I suspected had happened. The situation is sad already but without a body, there is always that lack of closure for the family.

There are only three causes that a person can go over the side of a ship. No more and no less. Only three.

1. suicide

2. murder

3. a deliberate act of skylarking/negligence/ or blatant disregard for your own safety.

There can be no other reasons why a person goes over the side of a ship. It is impossible to fall off.

They missed Noumea from all reports.

Yes, I haven't heard if they missed any other ports but wouldn't think so.

A shame that you missed your scheduled ports but some nice make ups instead. I suppose the mood on board was dampened somewhat.

The mood on board that day wasn't great, many disappointed to miss Santo, us included but we still got 5 ports and the weather was great the whole cruise, we will just have to book another cruise to Santo.

Yeah, it is no use worrying about things that are outside your control
