lottiegreen56 Posted March 30, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2019 We were planning to take a year off CCL but we got a deal from the casino that we just can't turn down for a 5 day in August Basically, we only pay port taxes for both of us and a guest, I received $1000 OBC and he received 2000 or 2500 (I believe). I don't know how anyone could turn that down! We're taking his brother and his life partner and will switch rooms once we get on board. Other than lobster and few platinum perks, are there any disadvantages or advantages to a 5 day? My brother and law and his partner are both body builder type guys, will the gym be fully operational the entire trip, including the first day and morning of the last day? Joebucks Posted March 30, 2019 #4 Share Posted March 30, 2019 Vacation is never long enough. I would go for 7 if it isn't breaking the bank.

I feel your words, we have two viking cruises as well this year so I think we'll manage! The price is certainly right on this one!
Woodfaerie Posted March 30, 2019 #6 Share Posted March 30, 2019 I always check out the gyms on the 1st day and they have always been fully open and operational. Not sure if you mean the last day of the cruise or the last day being debarkation day but honestly, I have never seen them closed, but I have never been up there the morning of debarkation. I didn't think 7 was an option. Can you upgrade a casino offer to another ship? I don't gamble so I have no clue whatsoever.

Is the $3000-3500 between the two of you OBC or casino cash/play? Either way, that's the big advantage. For a five day cruise, there will only be one Elegant night. Depending on you, that could be an advantage or a disadvantage. They gym will be open on embarkation day. Can't speak for debarkation day but if it is, keep in mind that you have to be out of your cabin by 8:30. If they do go to the gym, they would have to carry a gym bag with their change of clothes off the ship. I'm guessing they don't work out in their street clothes and shower afterwards. pe4all Posted March 30, 2019 #9 Share Posted March 30, 2019 (edited) I was in the gym at 6 a.m. on debark day last week on Conquest. The doors to the spa area were closed, but not locked. I went through them to the locker room, then to the gym as I do every day at 6 am on every cruise. I was the only one in there for 1/2 hour - then another guy came in to work out. When I left the doors were still closed. I guess they maybe had cleaned the gym and wanted to discourage anyone from using the equipment. The spa area and gym are open and buzzing on embark day, as they want to book/sell as many treatments/classes as possible. Djptcp Posted March 30, 2019 #11 Share Posted March 30, 2019 (edited) I receive great casino offers all the time and it doesn't matter if they are the shorter or longer cruises. We are retired, live close to several cruise ports, and can go anytime. We prefer the 7+ day cruises, but with free cruises and casino cash, who cares? Edited March 30, 2019 by Djptcp Left off part of sentence.
jsglow Posted March 30, 2019 #12 Share Posted March 30, 2019 I'm confused because I'm not a shipboard gambler. Is it a 'free cruise' plus we give you casino cash if you take this ONE particular cruise? That's what I always thought because I know my PVP reaches out to her gaming constituency about particular sailings.

My first thought on a 5 day is having to pay same amount of airfare for two less days on a ship. LOL
lottiegreen56 Posted March 30, 2019 Author #14 Share Posted March 30, 2019 I'm not an expert on the casino offers to be honest. We've been disappointed with how they've changed everything in the past year as we preferred to do the bounce back offers. Hubby booked all of this (there's a first for everything) and said that the credit was onboard credit and not free play. He may have been mistaken but made sure to get everything in writing via confirmation email. He's traveling for work so haven't seen the email but free play vs onboard credit doesn't really make a difference to us. Honestly the free play may work out better given we are splitting up for booking, it may make accounting easier between the two couples.
