Seaview YC--motion?

We are currently booked in 16020 on the Seaview Western Med cruise out of Civi. Being that YC is forward, has motion been an issue? We are cruising in June if that makes a difference for the seas in that region.

Also, I saw a picture of the hairdryer on board. Is it a "real" hairdryer or does it feel like someone is blowing on your hair like other cruiselines?

Just trying to determine how much Bonine to bring and if I need my travel hairdryer.

Thanks!

Rachel

We just returned from a western Caribbean cruise on the Seaside in the Yacht Club.  I typically do not get seasick but felt a little under the weather one of the days.  The up and down didn't bother me but I felt more side to side rocking on this cruise compared to others I have been a passenger on.

My wife reported that the hairdryer was weak and will bring her own next time we cruise with MSC.

Thanks! Did you notice the movement all throughout the ship or mainly in YC?

All cruiseships display a greater degree of motion, in rough seas, in the forward and highest deck areas. That said, we were not troubled by this at anytime on our 2 YC cruises....October in the Med (Meraviglia) and early February (Preziosa) in the Caribbean.

The hairdryer question is above my 'paygrade'.....being male!

It was definitely more pronounced in the YC.  Used it as an excuse to go to the casino a little more as it was located lower and midship:)

Obviously, the middle and lower the deck will offer least movement.

It is totally dependent on the weather so cross your fingers.

Always better at the sharp end, less soot fallout.

We noticed movement throughout ship. More than any other cruise. It wasn't a rocking motion but more of a, "Sitting in an airplane" type motion. And, seriously, when we got to Nassau, just before docking and no where near the dock, everyone talked about how the ship felt like it went over a speed bump or an airplane landing. Very weird!

Can people buy YC perks pass without booking the YC? I read it somewhere that can buy but I not sure that is true. Does anyone know about it?

I have personally seen this allowed, but I was told it is usually only for non Yacht Club family of someone staying in the Yacht Club.  It is totally at the concierge's discretion and it's fairly pricey too.  I was told $125pp/day, but that got them a cabana and meals in the YC restaurant, I'm not sure about drinks though.  I'm sure it has also happened for certain VIP's that may be on board.

To keep this post on topic I will add that my motion experiences on Seaside are that forward in the YC it is much milder than further aft.  As people have stated it is more of a side to side swagger than normal ship rocking motion.

Thanks for the answer. I don't mean to be out of the topic but don't want to create a new topic and sometimes lead it too much controversial. You know what I mean. The reason I ask because want to go on YC but always not available on the sailing I want to go. All sold out. I wish they have a new program to allow new cruiser ( I am talking about first time MSC cruiser to pay extra like 1-day pass to try a YC).

Think how many would take advantage of that pass and that would certainly take away from the exclusivity of the YC for those that booked the YC.  Also the space is designed to accommodate the number of cabins and occupants in the YC.  We have learned to book well in advance to get a cabin in YC due to the popularity of it now.

MSC do allow for a limited number of people per day to purchase a day pass for YC.  I don't know how you go about buying one, though.  $125 pp sounds about right - it used to be €100 on Med sailings.

Back on topic ... if the seas are rough, you will certainly experience motion much more in the YC as it's at the front and the highest point.  The only time I've ever had motion sickness was when in a forward-facing YC cabin in very rough seas.  (I'm never normally troubled with the condition even when many others are and the ship is near deserted as a result of people being ill).

Hi CM ... the weather broke down after we left Singapore (it had been glorious and very hot up until then).  We had a change of port in Vietnam and the weather was so bad that Shanghai was only a technical stop to allow disembarking/embarking passengers.  We weren't allowed off the ship.  There was quite a dip in temperatures, too, once we left Vietnam.  It was cold in Yokohama on arrival but was warmer the next day when we disembarked.  I wrote a review at the time, I don't know if you read it:

We personally didn't suffer from seasickness, but there were bags left out around the ship at times for those with weaker constitutions.
