What an exciting, sad, intriguing, heart-wrenching cruise this will be.
Have a safe trip over 'The Pond', and savor every last moment on that beloved little ship.

I thank you for giving us the privilege of coming along with you.

Jacqui, can't wait to hear all about the first part of your cruise, until we join you on the 24th.  I don't know about a tear in my eye when I leave May 20th;  there will be many tears shed that day by me!  She is our most sailed ship.

We are so excited to be setting out tomorrow on the very first ever direct commercial international flight to anywhere from Charleston, SC.  Brit Air will fly us to London where we'll visit cousins before flying to the Algarve.  While there we hope to see Prinsendam sailing from Portimao to Lisbon where we can't wait to go on board!

Safe travels to all as you head to Lisbon.  Looking forward to meeting y'all. Brenda

Wow, I can’t believe it’s time for you to leave already!  I lost my planned cruise on the Prinsendam when they sold her, and then I came THIS CLOSE to doing the 12 night from Lisbon.  The government shutdown made sure that didn’t happen either.  😡

I am looking forward to following your journey but it will be with a touch of sadness and envy.  Have a wonderful time everybody!!

We too are getting excited. We are flying to London on May 4th (arriving May 5th) and joining the beautiful Prinsendam for our first and last cruise on her.  Can't wait and do hope that HAL replaces the Prinsendam with another smaller ship.

See all of you onboard!

Hi Jacqui,

How exciting! I will be following along and wishing I were onboard with you!

I'm so glad I was able to sail on the Prinsendam with you last year. I will always be grateful for your efforts in organizing excursions and answering all my questions pre-cruise.

I look forward to seeing photos as you savor the flavor in Lisbon and throughout your adventure.

Safe travels and enjoy every moment on your beloved Elegant Explorer.

Blessings to you!

Jacqui, I'm excited for you, but almost get teary eyed thinking of everyone departing the ship at the end of the cruise.  I'm sure it won't be just passengers getting emotional, either!  Thanks for spending the time to keep us apprised of your travels - stay well, and Bon Voyage to you and Jose!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

We're leaving for Madrid on Saturday (April 6), arriving in Lisbon on the 11th.  I'm still wrapping up work so have not thought about packing yet!  But as Barbara said, the weather forecast is not what I was expecting; I might just use the clothing list from our last Alaska cruise, hahaha 😁

Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones!

I suspect I will have a tear in my eye when I disembark for the last time.  At least I hope I do and not anxious to get off the ship 😉

Jacqui,

I am sure you will have more than one tear when you depart the ship. Have a joyous and wonderful cruise on the Elegant Explorer. Barbara

I am sure you are right.  Thank you Barbara 🙂

Thanks for planning to blog which allow us to travel with you vicariously!  Your efforts are very much appreciated!

I wish you a very safe and poignant cruise.  My final cruise on Rotterdam V shortly before she was retired from the Fleet provided memories that I will never forget.  May I predict that your final cruise on the Prinsendam will provide you with the same?

Thanks 🙂

I too am starting to pack, but I must admit the weather forecast has thrown me a curve, I was expecting it to be at least 10 degrees warmer than the weather people say it will be!

I am a bit thrown off too as it was 23 C last week.  We’ll make the best of it.  Looking forward to seeing you at the Hotel Britannia!

Here is our itinerary for our cruise:

Just one change - instead of going to Le Palais, we’ll be going to St. Peter Port in Guernsey

Lots of interesting little places along with some standards - For the standards, in some of them we are doing food tours and savouring the flavour.

And then there are the little unique ports - Elba, Napoleon’s summer residence & museum, Alghero, Ceuta - the Spanish Morocco - to name a couple off the top of my head.

We have an overnight in Bordeaux so we will be doing a nice wine chateaux  and St. Emillion  tour, top it off with dinner in Bordeaux (reservations in place)

So fair warning, there will be some “savour the flavour” and food porn on this thread.  Just skip it or ask me not to post anymore if you see too much food 😉

Is that for the first segment (12th - 24th) or second? We have not even started the gathering of the cruise paraphernalia, let alone gathering clothes. If its going to be cooler than normal we may have to add more layering clothes.

We have 2 memorial services on each of the weekend before we fly out on Easter. So that is cutting deep into our organization time.
