Here is the video tour with Barbara Muckermann included in the Silversea emailing

Marina and Base Camp

Restaurant and Explorer Lounge

Spa, Gym, and Suites

The Grill and Observation Lounge

Agree that these are well-produced and very interesting videos.  Also, enjoyed seeing the video where the Silversea CEO and former owner was walking around the ship, doing the official acceptance of this new ship, etc. Still, the big mystery/question relates to when and how will services for all of cruise ship operators resume in the Galapagos Islands??

And for us, much as we would like to see the Galapagos for the first time, we are being somewhat "conservative" as to when this situation will be completely "safe" and conditions proper to avoid any health risks with the airline flights, being with in larger groups, dining styles and densities, etc.

Below are a couple of recent news stories and links related to that question when things return to "normal" in the Galapagos Islands..  From MSN and Fox News in the past day, they had this headline: “Traveler stranded in Galapagos during pandemic shares 'unique' lockdown experience” with these highlights about a traveler who has been "locked down" in this unique location.  This includes this info item as to when the restrictions will be lifted: local state of emergency is slated to lift on June 15.

Below is another link from two days ago with this web headline: "Here is How Latin America is Reopening; Country by Country Report".  Their reporting has these details for Ecuador: "The country opened its airports in Quito and Guayaquil, resuming both domestic and international flights. However, very few airlines have resumed operations. Restaurants can reopen in most cities with a maximum capacity of 30%."

Ecuador declared the Galapagos "COVID-Free" and is opening it up on July 1.  The Quito airport is open, but not sure about international flights from the US.

There is still is some work to do for Silversea as well as the furniture and some fixtures have not been put in yet. The ship looks really nice and Silversea shouldn't have a problem filling it up even at the much higher prices.

We have a 51 week wait until our cruise on the Origin, but that's okay.  At this point, I'm just hoping life gets back closer to normal.

Thank you all for the info on the Silver Origin, what a spectacular Expedition ship for the Galapagos.

Now if only Silversea would do a lottery for past Silver Galapagos passengers to do the repositioning to the Galapagos??

I am glad the Galapagos is covid 19 free and ready to open up July 01 2020.

Looks like August 22 is the first scheduled cruise, so they have some work to do.

Well-summarized above!!  It would be very nice to be cruising on this sleek, new ship in the famed Galapagos Islands in late August or early September.  BUT, I am curious as to how will the long air connections from the U.K., U.S., etc., work for spanning those significant distances and to be getting there, SAFELY?  AND, will key players such as the CDC, that nation's government, etc., have lifted all travel restrictions and be allowing such sailing and exploring there??   Will be watching to see how "events" play out during the next two months and if "it" happens in late August for Silversea.   Hoping for the best.

Right now, these Galapagos sailings starting in late August are the "first" to be happening for SS. Most of us are watching with interest to see how it all works and how full they will be able to operate this ship, the staffing levels, how food service works, the types of testing used, etc., etc.

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

Good news for these scenic islands and people like us who want to visit there.

From the Travel Section of the London/UK Telegraph today, they had this headline: “Galapagos Islands to reopen to tourists after wildlife blooms during pandemic” with these highlights: “The Galapagos Islands, the showpiece of Ecuador’s tourism industry and one of the world’s wildlife wonderlands, is set to gradually reopen to visitors in the coming weeks.  The country announced lockdown measures on March 12, closing its borders to foreign travellers three days later. One of the South American countries worst hit by Covid-19, Ecuador has confirmed 62,380 cases to date and 4,821 deaths – though only two deaths have been reported on the Galapagos Islands.  On July 1, the government officially reopened the Galapagos National Park, though there is a lack of flights between Seymour airport, on the island of Baltra, and the mainland.
