Tipping protocols on Costa

Having only cruised on NCL and other mainstream type of cruise lines I am aware of their tipping policies and practices. How does that differ to what happens on Costa particularly and in respect to European tipping practices in general?

Costa regards tips as a service charge which is not able to be removed.

This is charged daily and added to your on board account, there is no need to tip any further or to tip waiters in the bars & restaurant's.

It also depends on cabin grades on some cruises.

While the above is true for most Countries be aware that some do have laws that prevent fixed tips hence 'Service charge'.

No need to tip any others on board as the service charge is allegedly shared between all non salaried crew.

However we tip an extra 10 to 20 euros to cabin & restaurant waiter if they have been particularly good to us, but it is certainly not expected.

We do give our butler extra as we have our luggage wrapped when we leave cruise for shipping home & think this is above their duty to us.

Hope this helps I am in every day should you have any more questions.

Thanks tenpin. I'm sure as we go though the process of waiting for the cruise I will be back to ask some more, and I hope not annoying, questions.

We did end up booking a transatlantic but not until March of 2021.

Again thanks for your knowledge and your willingness to share.
