Hello - was wondering about the strength/quality of the internet on Independance of Seas? We were hoping to be able to watch game of thrones via HBO go on the Sunday we are there and curious if it is even possible. Thanks!

Yes.  Indy has O3b internet which is the better and newer satellite platform.

I streamed my Slingbox on Indy in January.

No satellite internet is perfect and there may be times when the Voom isn't perfect.  For example during rain it can slow way down.

We've been able to use our Firestick.

I would imagine that you won't be the only one.

Definitely not. I've seen this question asked a few times in last week or so for various ships.

We are planning on using Firestick to watch GOT premiere on HOS this coming week.

Can't speak for INDY but Royal has the best internet at sea - especially if you have surf and stream.

Indy has O3B internet. Other lines' ships, like Regal Princess also use O3B - RCI doesn't have a monopoly on the better medium earth orbit sat internet service.

Can't speak for princess, but the internet on Celebrity is AWFUL.  Forget streaming, anything that runs on data runs painfully slow.  On our last X cruise, we cancelled the internet by day 2 and asked for a refund.

You have?? I would love to just bring that. Do the TVs have ports for them?

Yes, they have HDMI ports -though you may need some help changing the TV to that input.

Royal used to have the best.  Now they are more expensive for the same service using the same satellite provider as other lines.  Both MSC and Princess have O3b ships.  A select few Carnival whale tail ships use it too.

Royal is no longer the best internet at sea but they are often the most expensive.

I can't comment on TV viewing other than Youtube videos and they stream just fine.

However, ping is too high to reasonably play fortnite 😞

There might be a solution in about 2 years - low earth orbit sat internet is coming.

The solution already exists.

Anything is better than the stuff they have on their tv. Not that I’m in the room that much, but before we go to sleep we usually watch a bit of tv.

Is there really a difference between the 2 types of internet they offer?

Up to 10x download speed diff between them - which may not translate into a much better experience.

Do you think my son could still watch videos on the slower one?

Depends on the video quality.  Higher quality video will likely have lots of buffering.
