Great news that the Edge RTG will have more shade and wind protection and maybe a bit more on the MC!!

Apex will be perfect, I’m sure!😉

Thanks, Jenn!!

I can't remember if it was in this video, or if it was mentioned when we had lunch. Mr Abel did say that you can make all of the decisions about every aspect of the cruise ship and experience and in planning it sounds fantastic.  You imagine what life the cruise ship will have but until you add the staff and guests you don't really know how everything will be in reality.   You don't see the ship come to life until there have been sailings under it's belt.  This is especially true for the first ship in a completely new build.  It's only after that happens can you begin to make tweaks to what is offered and experienced on that ship and also tweak the plans going forward for the new builds in the same class and design.  They heard quite clearly what wasn't working for their guests (thanks in large part to our members!) and addressed what they could in a rather short time frame 🙂

Thanks for doing this! I was pointed here when I asked what people would do between Equinox Eastern or Edge Western.

Still not 100% decided, but almost leaning towards going back to Disney and dealing with Marvel or Star Wars Day At Sea because I feel like I won’t be comfortable in my normal shorts and stuff during the day. I only do skirts or dresses when required (like dinners). Sounds like I would stick out and be one of “those people” who gets talked about on here. 😞 Celebrity might be too fancy for me.

I'd never try to dissuade anyone from sailing Disney and would love either Star Wars or Marvel 😛  However, you will be okay during the day in shorts.  I personally on my own body don't love shorts or to be honest any pants with buttons!  I just feel more comfortable in a stretchy skirt.  Most ladies had a pair of nice shorts or capris  (ie not gym type shorts) on during the day - and if they were by the pool or going into port maybe a bit more casual.  I saw plenty of dressy dinner pant outfits as well (on normal nights, not chic night, nice jeans are even considered appropriate dress!)

I haven’t yet finished the videos, but I am quite disappointed to hear the response about the Infinite Veranda cabin. I think the question may have been poorly worded & incomplete, but based on many, many CC reviews and posts, the bifold doors are not airtight, and one cannot sit on the veranda with bifold doors closed & IV window open, without the AC in the cabin shutting off. Jenn, did you happen to test this in your Aqua IV?

My veranda doors worked as intended.  My air stayed on if I closed the bi-folds.  My blinds also functioned properly.   I know that my coworker had issues with the blinds and that they wouldn't close properly at all for her.  She did report it to her stateroom attendant.  I will check with her to see if she tested out the doors closed/window open to see if the air stayed on for her.

From what I read from other members I think perhaps some of the doors aren't closing airtight - perhaps they need to be reported to maintenance to check on the seal/make sure the doors are on the right track etc.

Maybe some bifold doors are tight and others need adjustment. We never had the hot air issue that others reported, but I wasn't sure why. I just went back to look at my pictures and blew up my bifold doors when shut and they do look airtight.

I agree and that was my expectation from the beginning. I was on the first cruises and expected many glitches. Though some things looked like they were an issue when we watched the build, they ended up being fine (many said the Retreat Sundeck would be too crowded, for example, and it has been a wonderful, relaxing place) and other things we predicted would be an issue, were an issue (like the wind on the MC and the lack of a curtain in the IVs). There have been many, many changes since those first cruises and I expect there will be many more. They have been great about listening to feedback. When I was onboard some were reading my live thread and asking for feedback (one person asked almost every day what could be better). They are invested in this ship being a success. 🙂

Final Thoughts

Unfortunately I cut my cruise short to be home for the holiday.  That means I didn't have the time to observe a whole week long cruise to come to really good conclusions. I will base some final thoughts on what I was able to experience.

IV Staterooms:  I personally like the concept of the IV.  It makes the room larger. I like being able to keep the IV window open to feel fresh air and hear the ocean.  I liked that it was akin to a floor to ceiling window when not in use.  I also am not a huge fan of AC so I would enjoy being able to  keep that window open more often.  IF I was sailing with my husband we probably would only use the IV with the bi-fold doors closed.  He is a fan of AC 🙂  That said the experience on the IV did feel like it was missing something compared to a more open veranda - the open sides perhaps?  Though it does afford more privacy in most classes than a typical balcony.  Even with hubby's love of AC stopping me from sleeping with my IV window down, I would still sail in an IV in the future if even just for the additional in room space if you turn the chairs around.

Food:  Almost everything I ate wow'd me - aside from some of the side dishes at Fine Cut - that I found bland.  I found it far above the quality of food on NCL (Breakaway), MSC (Divina), and RCCL (Oasis) in both included and for fee venues.  I found it generally on par with DCL (all ships) food-wise but I will give a slight nod to La Petit Chef - which was amazing!  On par with DCL food in my opinion is a compliment 🙂   I will be on RCCL (Anthem) in a few weeks for vacation - so I can make a comparison with a different ship after that trip.  I do know that some people are upset with so many for fee options, however I don't think compared to other cruise lines (aside from Disney and maybe some of the MSC ships) that there are more for fee / less included than average.  If I had paid for no upcharge dining I would still have plenty of options for dinner.  The four main dining rooms concept with dishes specific to that room is closer to Disney's style of rotational dining that I love over other cruise ships and their general MDR menus.   OVC had some of the best Indian food I have had at sea.  Had great variety at all meal times and there was always seating.  The best pizza at sea as well.

Entertainment/Activities

I will be honest - there were times in the evening, or heck during the day too that I didn't have something I was interested in doing.  Some nights there would be a few shopping type activities listed (like a watch talk or jewelry talk etc) and maybe one show.  So if I didn't want to do a watch talk or a Beatles band what was there to do?  You could still have a drink and people watch in the Grand Plaza and generally there was music or a band there.  You could go to the casino (which I did - and was pleased to find that they offer free drinks if you are losing, I mean playing 🙂 )  I didn't notice if any movie was playing in the RTG in the evening but I bet if I had went up to look there may have been?! In general at any time interval there were maybe 2 things going on and one was generally something tied to one of the stores on the ship.  I am used to more options, though I don't know what I am looking for here.   I like on other ships that there are multiple lounges and bars that are not all centered around and completely open to the same plaza - and in those lounges there are different musical or comedian acts, or sports if a sports bar exists.  However on this ship I enjoyed relaxing,  a day movie in the RTG, I enjoyed the Eden show, I would have enjoyed the Acrobat show if there were enough seats in the club :p.  There may be fewer activity options compared to other cruise ships if that is what you are used to, and also noteworthy is the lack of proper stage show.  To me that is not a matter but someone mind find it a bother.

Families:  I never thought of Celebrity as a vacation line for us because I have two kids (10 and 19).  I was on during a spring break week and while there were some kids there still weren't a ton.  Most of the kids I saw were either teenagers or younger than 5.  I was able to poke my head into the teen hangout called the basement and it seemed just as cool as a teen club on any other cruise ship.  There were games in the RTG and at the pool for kids to play - like giant connect four, cornhole, jenga, and also ping pong.  I didn't see any activities specifically geared for kids or families though.  And no sport courts to play basketball or soccer.  I don't think i would choose this ship for a family vacation for my little unit, but if grandparents or other family members were sailing this as their choice and wanted us to come along we would and there would be enough for everyone to be happy.

Service:  Service everywhere for me was great.  Guest Relations was super helpful with making sure I had all of my documents in order to debark in Mexico.  My stateroom attendant also doubled as my outfit/shoe checker to make sure I looked okay 🙂  Restaurant staff was great.  In general any staff member around the ship was pleasant and helpful if needed.

Am I missing anything?  Hopefully not

I would sail on Edge and on Celebrity in general again, especially if it were with friends, or my daughter,  or just an adult getaway with the husband.  However, with my son being a very active 10 year old, for now I need to consider cruise ships that give him plenty of options to let out his energy  - at least for when we are taking family vacations.

I enjoyed reading your comments, especially since I was also on the 4/14 Edge.  I used to drag my husband to the CC events, but as he's gotten older, he's not as agreeable.  I wish I'd known you and your co-worker were aboard - I would have attended without him!  I've been a CC admirer since 2003.  I don't always submit reviews because I find most comments I would have are already  made.  I did just submit my review of the Edge, since there is a lot of interest in this new design.  Can you tell me about how long it takes for my review to be posted?

If anyone wishes to review their cabin for the Edge Class Cabin sticky at the top of the Celebrity page, it would be great! Just copy the template in the first post,  fill in the info and post and I will enter the data in the spreadsheet for future cruisers to review before choosing a cabin. 🙂  Thanks!!

Thanks for a great balanced review...

Edge is not currently on our radar - but may be in the future.

We generally select our cruises based on itinerary...

It's great to "hear" they are listening to the feedback of the early cruisers!

All reviews do get the once over by an actual staff member.  It can take 48-72 hours to be published but sometimes longer if the volume is high 🙂

This is great news. Some of the early photos (when Edge was being sailed from the shipyard to FL, I think) showed closed bifold doors with a clear gap. And as I said, many early passengers reported the AC shutting off, despite the bifold doors being closed. Passengers also reported being told by cabin attendants that the AC was supposed to shut off whenever the IV was open, regardless of the position of the bifold doors.

I hope our Concierge IV works properly. We will certainly test it thoroughly, and try to get it fixed if it doesn’t work.

Did your coworker ever get her blinds fixed? BTW I hope both of you will post a cabin review on VTcruising’s excellent Edge cabin sticky😊

As a usual Go Green type person, I hate to say this, but I would turn off your Go Green (we had ours off because the cabin would be too warm when we came back after being away since it turns up 2 degrees automatically when people leave the cabin and unlike Jenn, we like the AC 🙂). That may be another reason we didn't have trouble with it getting too hot in the cabin with the glass down. Someone mentioned that it seemed the AC kept working with the window down, but don't remember the details.

Thanks very much for posting this summary to your live review. You’ve given us a lot of valuable information about aspects of Edge that are still evolving. Thanks too for posting the videos. I’ll finish them during breaks in my packing😉 This Sunday, it’s Edge or bust😎😎

The gap is not at the middle, but almost an inch on each side when the doors are closed. We also didn't have the loss of cool air, perhaps because that green button was accidently off.

I don't remember a gap on the sides but there could have been. 🙂

I had dinner with Ashley (my coworker) and her guest that night 🙂

Thanks for answering.

CC has a sticky that asks for members to do a cruise review, will the coworker and guest provide one?   Am interesting on their view.

My wife and I spend two fabulous weeks on Edge and love almost everything everything.   Nothing is perfect except my wife according to her 🤔  couldn’t prove it by me 🤗

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

Thanks Jenn very much for posting the videos of the questions and answers. Interesting spin on one IV issue. He turned the problem into a concern about privacy and not morning light disrupting a partner's sleep. The frosted glass solution doesn't block light. And the folding doors are NOT air-tight! Sorry there was no mention of the limited veranda space caused by the king-size bed. Such simple fixes. Sigh...Glad they are adding additional wind protection on top of the ship and fixing other issues.

I will definitely submit a room report for the cabin sticky 🙂  Actually Ashley's blinds were not fixed, granted we did leave a few days early so I don't know if they were fixed after.

Oh I didn't think of that.  Very good tip though 🙂  I do wonder if the AC would run with the window open if that was turned off - who wants to go test 😉

I should also mention a few things that I may have forgotten

1) my room did not have a TV remote.  I thought perhaps I wasn't given one since you can control the TV from the app on your phone.  Apparently I was supposed to have one 🙂

2) There was no mini bar price list in my room - and I was a little confused about whether the Evian on my desk was complimentary or part of the mini bar.  I never did drink it - only the canned water that was delivered after I checked in.

3) some people had iced tea delivered daily to their rooms (AQ class)  - I never did - but I didn't know it was a thing until Ashley mentioned it

4)  The app is really useful and does pack a lot of info on dining and entertainment but I couldn't book anything from the app --- I did not check to see if I could book on the TV.  The app also controls your TV and thermostat and lights 🙂
