cello56 Posted April 21, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 21, 2019 Your daughter will NOT be allowed in the Diamond Club on Royal Caribbean. There will be a letter in your cabin on boarding explicitly stating this rule. There are going to be posters on this thread telling you to just ask the concierge to 'make an exception' for you. Please do not do that. It puts the concierge in an awkward position, and is unfair to others when space is at such a premium. I believe that Celebrity DOES allow cabinmates to accompany you to top tier events. Thank you for asking about the rules. It shows you have integrity. Have a wonderful cruise. 3

cruiseguy1016 Posted April 21, 2019 #6 Share Posted April 21, 2019 Your daughter will not be allowed in the Diamond Lounge but it might not be a big deal on some ships. For instance, my wife, son and his girlfriend (all Diamond members) were on Adventure a month ago. The Diamond Lounge was packed every night. The overflow area for the Diamond Lounge is the Viking Crown Lounge, on the other side of the door to the Diamond Lounge. Since the Diamond Lounge was always packed, we just grabbed our drinks and enjoyed them in the Viking Crown Lounge. Maybe you can do the same with your daughter, gab your drink in the Diamond Lounge and enjoy it with your her in the overflow area.

healthworker Posted April 21, 2019 Author #9 Share Posted April 21, 2019 thank you all for your honest replies! I knew there was a difference between RC and celebrity but wasn't sure which allowed family members. appreciate the clarification!
biomedbob Posted April 21, 2019 #10 Share Posted April 21, 2019 I agree that the DL is losing appeal. On the Grandeur the DL can only be accessed by walking through the Schooner Bar. It's become a gathering place for D+ and P's to sit and comment on the freeloaders passing through.
Starry Eyes Posted April 21, 2019 #11 Share Posted April 21, 2019 (edited) Remember if you do select Royal Caribbean, as a diamond there will be three drink vouchers loaded on your sea pass card. Those vouchers can be redeemed at bars during same hours DL serves cocktails, so you can enjoy a free diamond drink while also enjoying your daughter’s company. Granted, you’ll miss out on the appetizers from the DL, but there is plenty of other food on the ship! Depending upon your daughter’s style and activity preferences, she may or may not like Royal Caribbean (without DL access) better than Celebrity with top tier access. Many twenty somethings love the flow riders, zip lines, rock walls, younger vibe found on certain Royal ships. Others might not use that stuff and would like the more elegant vibe of a Celebrity ship. There are factors to consider besides a lounge. Choose well and have a wonderful, memorable time. grandgeezer Posted April 21, 2019 #13 Share Posted April 21, 2019 Are you looking for companionship or free drinks for your daughter? If it's companionship, there are three free drinks attached to your seapass card that you can use at just about any bar. You are limited to the same drinks served in the DL and it can only be used during the same hours as the DL. We were at the Schooner Bar last October and we were there five minutes early and had to wait. Maybe the time is registered when they scan the card. #1cruiseaholic Posted April 21, 2019 #14 Share Posted April 21, 2019 Still love meeting people in the Diamond lounge. We have learned so much from fellow cruisers. We will become diamond plus after next cruise. At this point in my life I do my own thing and enjoy the perks and really don't care what others think as I walk through the schooner bar.

The only rude comments I've ever heard anyone make about the upper 3 tier levels or about the DL is here on CC.
FLHugh Posted April 21, 2019 #16 Share Posted April 21, 2019 On Allure 4/7 - 4/14, the most I saw in the DL was maybe 20 people. I agree, with the Drink Package, it has lost much of it's appeal.

Happy enough with the free drink options. So to have a few 'free' drinks in the evening is a nice perk. Also enjoyed the interesting conversations in the DL. It’s not an awkward position for concierge. They simply have choice to enforce policy or make a special exception based on cruise and circumstances. Give them the opportunity to make that decision, nothing lost for either party otherwise. 😃 I will respectfully disagree. It is very rude to put the concierge in the position of having to disappoint a cruiser or break a rule. Of course, there are always the self-entitled who will ask anyway. 10

I love these kind of comments. How could you possibly know the C&A level of those sitting at the schooner bar. Many, including me, don’t wear any C&A pin and don’t wear a room key on the lanyard that might expose the crown and anchor level So, since you know this information, Where are you sitting with the diamond plus and Pinnaces and commenting on those passing through for free drink, or were you walking to the lounge to enjoy a cocktail ( for free) in the diamond lounge? enjoy m 1

I too, I have stopped drinking lots of alcohol during the day, We are satisfied with the three vouchers we get every evening. Will often buy a couple of drinks during the cruise when i want something that is not on the list, or might want a drink after the cocktail hours have closed. We don’t frequent in the lounge, but the few times we do it is generally very nice. M

Since you will get three vouchers each evening, you and your daughter can simply stop in to any bar and have a drink together. I think on most ships you can now use the vouchers during dinner. I don’t know what ship you are sailing but there are many many lovely areas around the ship to enjoy your daughter’s company. Celebrity does extend the privilege to cabin mates. Enjoy m BTW, a couple years ago my grown daughter, who was my cabin mate met me in the concierge lounge. (I honestly don’t recall how she got in the door). She was diamond at the time and (I know this is not important) does not drink alcohol. It was the first day of the cruise, and I had run into some friends at the pool who said “meet us in the concierge lounge tonight”. Without thinking, I said “sure” We did not arrive at the lounge together. When I got into the lounge my daughter was already seated and having a glass of water. I asked the concierge if she could stay and mentioned that she does not drink alcohol. The lounge was maybe 1/3 full. The concierge, who is now a sought after Genie raised his voice and let everyone in the room know I was attempting to break the rules and that under no uncertain terms was she allowed in the room. We immediately left, and spent our time in the diamond lounge or around the ship. I doubt I will ever ask again. Rare thrifty99 Posted April 21, 2019 #23 Share Posted April 21, 2019 We just got off the Harmony this morning. No non-Diamond guests were allowed in. During the nightly Happy Hour they always had an extra person checking the SeaPass card of every person coming in. Our DL was crowded from 4:30 to 6:30 each night and then was only half full the remainder of Happy Hour. Go ahead and ask if you want but be courteous if told they cannot come in with you. One lady this week had a meltdown when our concierge would not let in her guests. She yelled at him about making up his own rules.

The upper tier members tend to gravitate to the big ships especially in the off seasons, due to the fact that with balcony discount you can get a neighborhood balcony almost as cheap or cheaper than an inside. Plus a lot of upper tier members do the T/As and surrounding cruises. The lounge can be crowed one week and almost empty the next. On the better priced cruises it is almost always full. When we get our "free" cruises from the casino. Price is not an object. So we tend to take expensive cruises. With less upper tier cruisers. On our first cruise as Pinnacles we would up 3rd highest cruiser On the Harmony in July. The DL was empty every night.
