Casino question

Hi! I have asked a bunch of questions recently and I always appreciate everyone’s advice! This is our first time to cruise HAL and our first cruise in general in many years.

How does the casino work for black jack tables? Do we need to bring cash? Or do we use our card and it’s charges to our account? We leave in 4 days and I keep thinking of all the random things we may need 🤪 does anyone know the minimum bet for the tables? We aren’t huge gamblers but we do enjoy blackjack if the minimum bet isnt very much.

Hi.  Blackjack is the only thing I do in casinos....on a ship or on land.  Table minimum is $6 but that's at the 6:5 tables.  The "normal" 3:2 table minimum varies from $15 during the day to $25 during evening hours.  However, this can depend upon the particular ships host/manager.  I've seen the 3:2 table require $25 on some ships even in the morning when the casino first opens and I'm the only one at the table. You need to bring cash.  Actually I wire "up front" money to the ship through the Ocean Players Club before I leave.  That way I don't have to carry lots of cash.  Hope this helps.  Have a great cruise!

How easy is it to wire the cash, and is there a fee?  We're on the Eurodam in the fall and I'd love to do this.

My husband and I have always carried cash and are not a fan of this.  We took out a marker for a recent trip to Vegas and loved the freedom it offered, not needing to carry cash across country or store it in our safe.

Very easy and the only possible fee is if your bank charges one. Just google oceans players club ...register yourself..send them an email with your ship/date of cruise and they will reply with the particulars. At least that’s how it worked last year when i wired money

Another option.....I purchase the casino chips online. I would say we play more than a little 😂 and I certainly don’t like carrying cash. Trust me, you can buy as much as you want.  You will have a card with the information on your chips waiting in your room. Then, after boarding, as soon as someone is in the casino take that card to them and they will convert it to cash. Since you purchased up front they are prepared and expecting you. Then we take our cash to our safe. No extra fees doing it that way. I charge on my HA credit card so I get credit for the purchase and I just pay it right away so I have no extra expense. I’m sure others have better ideas but it works for us!

Contact the Ocean Players Club online:  https://oceanplayersclub.com/contact/general/

Or you can call them at 888-OPC-CLUB (672-2582).  They will give you all of the information you need.

Good luck at the tables!

You can also get money out if the slot machines, and it gets charged to your room account and there’s no 3% fee.  When you use the slot you enter a PIN number - very easy to do.

You can get cash out of the slots, and there is no 3% fee, but the money that went into that slot machine cannot be HAL issued OBC (the free stuff).  It has to be OBC that you or your TA pre-purchased.   You could do that in the past, but HAL finally put an end to that.  They are now capable of separating HAL provided OBC and passenger or TA funded OBC.  All HAL provided OBC is clearly noted on your Navigator cabin account screen as not usable for cash withdrawals or casino.

But you can also spend cash in the slot machines right?  Just trying to get an idea of how much cash to take with me...

They will happily accept any cash you are willing to part with.

You can use your keycard to load up a slot machine, or they will happily accept your US $$$.   But they will not spit out coins in the bin of the machine when you cash out.   Even if you use cash in the machine, you may still have to use your keycard to open a casino bank account, where your winnings will be deposited.   When you are finally ready to call it quits,  take your keycard to the casino cage and they will pay you off in cash.
