Do you call for EVERY price drop?

Recommended Posts

Thanks to this board, I found out about checking prices often and calling and getting our cruise fair adjusted when the price goes down. I was able to save $300 on my spring break cruise this past year and was just able to save $459 on my upcoming Alaska cruise last week. You all rock!

Today, I checked and saw that our Alaska cruise would be $38 cheaper WITH the OBC credit offered. And another cruise we have booked would be $73 cheaper WITH the OBC offered. I love saving money trust me (coupons, clearance rack here I come), but my concern here is do they ever cut you off and say no more savings for you? If I take this next price drop and I see $200 later on will they say no ma'm, you've had enough. I've also read horror stories on here where people's reservations were cancelled in error when they make changes. And at the risk of sounding lazy, these calls sometimes take a while and it isn't that easy to always spend 30 minutes on the phone.

So back to my original question, do you call for every price drop you see?

Thanks in advance! :-)

I've had 3 price drops on one cruise but that's unusual. I like a threshold of $200 before I call only because I worry that they may somehow screw up the reservation. I'd prefer the drop to be worth the risk.

Because I'm very lazy. 😉🤣

Plus I dont want to hassle my TA for under $30 or so.

Ha! One of my reasons, is its hard to call during the day when I'm at work (not so much talking on boards though obviously lol). Then get distracted with kids and running them around when I get home. Plus, I'm admittedly paranoid about something happening with making changes after reading some of the horror stories.

I usually don't bother unless it's more than 50 bucks...since most of the time they will change again anyway.

Absolutely.  I've called for price drops as little as $30.  Why not? I wouldn't throw 30 bucks away.

True, that's a good way to think about it.

I would always call for a price drop no matter the amount.

Hell yeah!!!  Sadly haven't had any in quite a while😇  And also sadly it used to be easy to call early in the am and get price drops when there was an overnight office open in Oregon.  Miss those guys!!!

The casino has at least a slight chance of a return, paying $30 more for your cruise just cause has zero chance of return.

I admit I'll donate to the casino on occasion, but I consider that entertainment :)  I've also won some serious bucks in the casino as well.

I haven't experienced a price drop 😞 At least I feel like I received a good deal from the beginning. As a matter of fact when I looked last week the same category was over $100 more expensive. Today it's sold out. 142 days to go!!!

I call if it's over $20 savings (total), just because I don't want to be bothered calling for less than. But I see no reason not to call for every drop.

If Royal could call you and charge you $1 more they would do it.

I've called for a $20 price drop. That's $20 per person so it's actually a $40 savings.

That's why I prefer to book with a TA who has become a friend over the years. I would agree with the fact that $30 a person would be a reasonable amount to bother making the call. But I also understand your concern about not wanting the reservation to get messed up or to lose any other perks by doing so.

The price drops I saw today are for all passengers so $37 pp on one and $9 pp on the other. I may try calling on the way to pick up the kids. Hopefully, I'll get someone quick who is quick, but also doesn't mess up our reservation. 😂

I know TAs offer great benefits, but I am way to big of a control freak.

It would be like throwing away 3 drinks.....or 1 specialty dinner.  Even if you have to spend a 1/2 hour on the phone, it's worth it. After all, would you turn down a job where you'd make $60 an hour?

Although I do tend to get lazy sometimes......maybe by the 3rd $30 price drop, I'd stop calling.

Funny, that's one of the reasons I like to book directly with the cruise line.  I can call anytime day or night, any day of the week, to get price drops or make changes to the reservation.

I have called for as little $80.  I had one that was a little less than $20 that I didn't bother with, I probably should have though.

Yes...I call whenever I see a price drop , and have called for one as little as $19.  I figure that pays for a drink or two so may as well put the money in our pockets than Royal's.  With every call, I do my groundwork first and mark down exactly the numbers I see (noting different amounts, balance, gratuities, taxes and fees, etc) and do not hang up until I verify the invoice against my numbers and make sure all promotions are counted for.  The calls don't take very long (except in the odd case where you get an agent that is new and is a bit slower)

I check daily on the cruises where a price drop could occur (as some we booked early and the price has risen so much I know it won't ever go below our booking) and sometimes multiple times a day (for example, yesterday I checked at lunch, then checked again in evening and the price went down).  Doesn't take long to check and its a nice feeling when you see a price lower than your current price.

Not only cruise price drops - but I check booked EXCURSIONS as well, the last two week saw us saving $352 total out of 7 excursions for our upcoming med trip. I cancel, then re-book under the lower prices, and repeat as necessary!
