They Changed My Itinerary!

There are a lot of RC and cruise line fanboys that don't have a vested interest in this issue trying to make us feel like we are in the wrong for discussing an issue that affects our vacation.   I give good reviews to people who ask me outside of the forum about our cruise experiences with RC, but this one kinda stinks.  It's not like we were at sea and weather caused a change in ports.  This was a known problem for while and still took reservations without a saying there might be a change due to an issue with the ship.   Good customer service is at least offering a simple on board credit for the inconvenience and being upfront with customers.  Anyone who works in the service industry should know the customer comes first and making them feel good goes a long way for future business.

Great post!

That's what I thought. My guess is that the week-long drydock that they had planned for Freeport to fix the azipod issue got scratched when Oasis broke the drydock, and Cadiz in 2020 became the only option for the repairs.

So far there has been no determination that Oasis broke the drydock.  On the contrary, it could be a failure of valves, walls etc. of the dry dock itself.

Now did the incident in Freeport impact the ability of Allure to do a partial dry dock to do a proactive repair "locally" as opposed to sailing to Europe, that would be a possibility

The first set of questions is what other dry docks are available, can handle the ship and when.  It is not like the cruise line can call "Joe Dry Dock" and say I need space in seven days.  In addition they need to contact the azipod manufacturer and arrange for technicians to be available.  Both of these schedules need to be coordinated.  I imagine there are others.

Remember cruise ships are just a small part of the shipping industry.  They are competing with freighters who have already booked their dry docks based on "insurance/inspection" policies.

So cruise ships may have to wait their time for the new "reservation" time.  In the meantime they need to continue to generate revenue and try to please people that have cruises booked, and still want to be on a cruise no matter the itenary or timing of port stops.

The alternative would be cancelling all cruises unit the propulsion unit is repaired at the next dry dock availability.  I think most people would like to take a cruise however altered instead of booking a land base vacation at the last minute.

Depends on if the November 10th cruise is affected or not.

But you haven't made a point. Other than to complain about your pizza.

I am not here to argue with you..if you dont like the point I am clearly trying to make, Great, then leave it alone....No reason to be condescending...we are all adults correct?.

Alot of people are bothered by this...you currently are not one of them and thats great...I hope your cruise is not.

Thanks again for chiming in.

My problem isn't with you being upset. For the second time, I get why your upset. I'd be upset too. My problem was your pizza analogy is wrong. You being upset is blinding you from seeing that though.

Although I have personally not had a bad experience with Royal Caribbean, I have voiced my opinion several times when it comes to issues such as this and have been flamed by the one cruise line wonders on this board.  I am not new to cruising. As a matter of fact the Caribbean Princess has had this same issue since 2009. They can't seem to get it fixed. I sailed five times on that ship and never had an itinerary change. I also know that itinerary changes are a fact of cruising so I can accept that.  This is one time that I feel that Royal Caribbean didn't have a choice in changing the itinerary. The lack of repair is due to the situation in Freeport. However they do need to step up and offer some compensation. There seems to be a lot of customer service issue with Royal Caribbean. These type of threads pop up a lot.

I agree ... I don't want to minimize anyones disappointment with their vacations.   Everyone has the right to be  disappointed.  The way I look at it (and I will admit so far we only have a small change in time in San Juan) is that I get to eat the Pizza with my family.  I personally don't care where.  There are a lot of people that will never be able to get to even try a piece of this pizza.

We are on the Allure in July going to Jamaica.  The app says Roatan instead of Jamaica but the online site says Jamaica.  I would be thrilled to go to Roatan instead of Jamaica because we would love to go back to West Beach.  Is it possible that they are in the process of changing this port?  I did notice that the online site is saying that we dock in Jamaica at 10:45.  That seems really late.  I'm not too excited about Jamaica but my sister really wanted to go back.

The port time in Jamaica changed.  It was 9:30 to 6:00, it is now 10:45 to 7:00.

I called to change my reservation from the Oct 6 sailing to the oct 13th due to the change in ports less than 2 days after I made my reservation.  They would not waive the $100/ person change fee.  Gee what customer service!

You really think RCI views taking a ship out of service for months until it can get into a dry dock as an alternative?

Just found out the change on the May 12th cruise.  Very unhappy.  Was really looking forward to USVI and I have never enjoyed San Juan.  Now we have shorter stays and a only one good stop (St. Kitts), one lousy (PR), and one meh at best (Nassau).  Wish we'd get a discount or the option to cancel.  Better yet - I need a free drinks package.  That would make me much happier.

Not to mention they have yet to take down the St Thomas shore excursions and replace with PR. I'm sure technology takes time.

Sigh.....

I know!  I've tried the last 2 days.  It annoys me every time because it lets you select PR but then pulls up all of the USVI shore excursions....I thought this was just me being overly irritated at them.

This is so disappointing to all of us who can't make a change to another ship. We are not yet at final payment. However, I am under the nonrefundable, but may look into changing to another ship.  We have to take that week as my husband employment does not allow us to change that week.  I know everyone says they have the right, and they do. But it's still so sad that there is such a blatant bate and switch.

After talking to 2 different CSRs and finally a resolution specialist, I found out I was still in my 7 day window to make a change without a fee, today was the 7th day.   The 2 CSRs failed to notice or tell me that.  The RS finally noticed it, but prior to that wouldn't budge on the change fee.  I said after all these gyrations in telling my story to the CSRs, pleading my case etc, all they had to do was look at my reservation date and realize I was still in the 7 day window.   I wasn't aware of it either.  Anyway we changed to a different itinerary.
