Not at all, with more ships doing cruises out of Auckland, they are bound to have more local passengers

There seem to be more one way itineraries between NZ and Australia these days too.

Auckland is closer to Sydney than many parts of Australia. 

Kiwis often pop over the ditch for the day , to shop or take in a show.

True, certainly closer than Perth Cairns or Darwin.
