6 hours post cruise in Seattle - what do do?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I believe we will be off the ship around 8am after our 14th June Tracey Arm cruise.

Flight home isn't until 7.30pm, so we would have 6 or 7 hours to while away.

We will need to store our luggage somewhere we can recover it conveniently, and then find something to do for 6 or 8 hours. We will only have one full day in Seattle pre cruise and we were going to do the Space Needle, Fish market etc that day. So wondering what else would be interesting on the day we fly home.

Anyone have any suggestions please? Also, best way to get from wherever we finish up - whereever that may be, back to the airport on time?

Thanks in advance.

Same response from your other thread:

One very commonly suggested plan would be to take an excursion ( a city tour, for example) from your cruise line, which would end with being dropped off at the airport. Your baggage would be kept on the bus until you get to the airport.

Another possibility, frequently mentioned here, would be Seattle's free luggage program, which would take your bags to the airport for you, but don't think it covers international flights. Could be wrong on that, check the website...

You would be able to get off your ship somewhere between 7:30 and 9:30. You can manage this to your advantage.

The waterfront is always fun and interesting.  Ivar's is a Seattle staple for lunch.  There is a big ferris-type wheel that is fun and you get amazing views of Puget Sound.  At the same location, there is Wings Over Washington.  It's kind of like a ride and you "soar" over beautiful scenery from all over Washington state.

we flew to Seattle and had to wait about 6 hours before our train to Vancouver.

In that time, we walked from the train station to the Skyview Observatory - cheaper than the Space Needle, and I thought a better view. I believe it's higher. Just a gorgeous way to view the city. We then walked down to Pike Place Market and had lunch at Lowell's Restaurant which had a lovely view of the water on the third floor. Then we walked along the water back to the train station, and stopped at some shops. I was surprised we were able to do all of that and still had time (too much of it) at the train station waiting to go on to Vancouver.

Well it sounds like you have the "must do" which the remodel of the Space Needle is amazing and the fish market!  Good Job!  And I agree with Cruiser Bob, take advantage of having your bags dropped off at the airport!  They have been doing this for a number of years, so pretty sure thing.

If you are into music:  look into the Experience Music Project

If you are into food:  might want to look into some of the food tours, there is a Chocolate Tour that starts at 11

The Chihuly Garden and Glass at the base of the Space Needle is something you might want to do when you do the Space Needle, amazing glass works of art.

If you like Jets:  You could tour Boeing, they will pick you up downtown and take you to the largest manufacturing building in the world- https://showmeseattle.com/tour/boeing-tours/

Pioneer Square, south downtown had a whole city that was a whole story below the current streets -  there is a Seattle Underground tour

Agree with West Coast Gal about the Chihuly Garden and Glass. A really neat spot and close to the Space Needle and Music Experience. Personal preference for Anthothy's rather than Ivar's. Ivar's can get really busy around lunch. Also, if you haven't had enough time on "the water" an hour-long harbor cruise is interesting. And, of course, Pike Place Market is pretty much a most if you haven;t been before. Also,en route to SeaTac is the Museum of Flight, a wonderful aviation museum.

There is a free shuttle bus from the waterfront to Pike Place Market and to downtown. If you's downtown, take the monorail to the Seattle Center and all the stuff near the Space Needle.
