Nieuw Amsterdam Skagway first visit

Recommended Posts

Nieuw Amsterdam docked in Skagway at abut 0700 this morning to steady rain and chilly. Some hearty souls headed ashore early- we'll wait until eases up as we are here until 2300.

Now 1150 and rain has stopped and sun is trying to peek through- should be a nice day.  We are at the dock with the bow over main street so easy in and out.  NCL behemoth is at the dock at the base of the mountain.  Appears there was a big landslide over the winter above the dock.  I'll get a picture and post when we head out.

I wonder if the Skagway final ship tradition applies to the first ship of the season also 🙂

I'm excited to see Skagway next week (also on the NA).  We're taking the "Experience Yukon and Suspension Bridge" excursion through HAL.  How is the ship looking after the bump? have they done any repairs? Enjoy yourselves! 🛳️

We love Skagway.  Over the years since we were first there in 1989, it has changed a lot.

Hope you enjoy your day there.

We are going to the crew store in town to pick up my favorite Sambal Matah that isn't carried on board 🙂

Just there a week ago with blue skies. Try the "Doughboy" at a local eatery. It was great!

Alaska Fudge Company is a mandatory stop in Skagway.

Ditto, but I think they got upset when I ate one pound of samples :classic_biggrin:

Was a great day Father!  The Boss blessed us with some sunshine after the morning rain and enough cold wind to keep everyone moving 🙂

Just saw your post. We are on the Westerdam in Kodiak, first ship of the season.  Almost didn't get into port with high winds.

I like being the only ship (1865 guests) here versus the crowded Alaskan ports.
