HAL is not making flight reservations difficult.  The airlines have a general policy that you cannot reserve or even check fares for a flight more that 330 days out.   And for a round trip flight, the 330 day restriction is from your return home flight.   If you have a long cruise, the 330 day counter starts from your return flight, not the flight you would take to get to the ship.
