24 Hours in Budapest - Where to Stay?

Recommended Posts

Hi, we stayed in a cute apartment. I will put the link on and hope it works:

This apartment is called Little Star "perfect location" as the title. It was very clean. The bathroom and kitchen were small and a little old but fine. You can see the price is really great. The owner, a lovely woman, lives in the apartment upstairs if you need anything. The apartment is above a bar and street where there is intense partying on weekend nights. This did not bother us because we were on the 6th floor, but I wanted to mention it. You are within walking distance of many sites and also the metro to go to Parliament or the baths.

In 2008 we stayed at the Carlton Hotel,  at the foot of the Fisherman's bastion and the castle quarter,  close to the chain bridge, and easy walk to the central business district.  We watched our AMA Waterways ship arrive!

We stayed at the Aria - simply divine! Great views overlooking St. Stephan's Basilica & wonderful location for sight-seeing. The rooftop bar is great!

One other note: We found it was easy enough to find our way around for the most part, but on our second trip we wanted to see things that we missed. We spent an entire day, including lunch at the market, with Adam from Behind Budapest and I can't recommend him highly enough. He was one of the best guides we have had anywhere in the world, and he took us everywhere using public transportation. It was an incredible and unforgettable day - despite cold weather and snow flurries! http://behindbudapest.hu/en/

Something you might want to consider since your time is so limited...

Thank you for this recommendation.  We're going to be in Budapest in May 2020 and this is exactly what I was looking for.  :-)

You're very welcome!! Our day with Adam from Behind Budapest was phenomenal. Over the top service without over the top pricing.

My wife Kathy and I are on the Viking Grand European Tour Budapest to Amsterdam in May 2020. We want to arrive in Budapest one day before we embark on our Viking ship. I would appreciate any hotel recommendations for Budapest. Our hope is to be centrally located where we can walk by the major attractions, eat a good Hungarian dinner, and be relatively close to the Viking River Cruise Port. Viking recommends the Budapest Hilton. The Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace is close the Viking River Cruise Port, but I don't know how close it is to the major attractions. Thank you in advance for your help. We look forward to reading your recommendations.

The best location, I think, for first time visitors is by the Chain Bridge.  Many hotels are in this area.  I’ve stayed at both the Corinthian & Marriott. So much is within walking distance and/or tram.

We also stayed at the Aria - wonderful location & great hotel! It is very easy to get around Budapest - we utilized the metro & trams as well as our feet. Amazing city with much to see.

Is it on the Buda or Pest side? Have seen the name pop up a few times for our post cruise.

Thanks.

Pest side - really a lovely hotel & the location can't be beat. ARIA.thumb.jpg.85f3964ba4f8df7c6485af2a27066ef1.jpg

Ok, going to book it for our 3 nights post cruise in Oct. There is an offer from Amex platinum that gets us early checkin/late check out, room upgrade if available & 2 free massages! Thanks! They also have a hotel in Prague (our pre cruise), but they don't have those same options, so strange.

Agree about a location near the Chain Bridge.  I don't think anyone has mentioned the Sofitel Chain Bridge.  My TA recommended it to me as she had stayed there herself.  Great hotel and staff.

Yes, it is.  The Sofitel is located very close to Chain Bridge, I haven’t stayed there but walked by all the time.  All three are on Pest side.
