Traffic issues? Short port time

Our cruise will be in st maarten in a few weeks on a Wednesday from 7am-2pm. I keep seeing people on our cruise ship forum posting that they are doing ship sponsored excursions because of the short time - and a worry of making it back to the ship on time. Also, i keep reading about heavy traffic. I checked the port schedule and it shows our ship (of 4,000 passengers) is the ONLY ship scheduled that day.

 

We were hoping to grab a taxi to the french side beaches, should I be concerned?

Hi. Just wondering how your trip went?  Though your port time was a bit shorter, I am similarly concerned about what I hear on traffic.
