Port Canaveral to Space Center/Hotel

We are thinking of flying into MCO, renting a car for 6 of us then staying at a hotel by the port. We want to come in a day earlier to go to space center. How far is it? Is there a hotel you would recommend? Feel we have to rent a car because how would we get from hotel to space center and back?

I'd just book at one of the hotels recommended here on the board.  It's a pretty short drive from those Port Canaveral hotels to the Kennedy Space Center - maybe 20 minutes or so.  I'd rent a car - you can use it at the end of the day at KSC to drive down into Cocoa Beach for dinner at a good restaurant.

We are renting a car one way from MCO to PC for two days to see KSC and sights in Cocoa Beach. dropping off at the port the morning of our cruise.. 

 

With a half a million options for transportation we decided this works best for us..
