Guarantee assignment?

I am thrilled to have booked the Seaside for the second time.  In spite of the negative reviews, we had a splendid cruise last year, and we were in a lowly Bella Oceanview.  No complaints whatsoever, but then we don't go looking for things to whine about.  We embraced the differences!

This time I have booked a guarantee and I am just curious when we might expect a room assignment.    The category we booked shows sold out, so I have a wee bit of hope we might get an upgrade.  I am checking way too often!

Also, the spa is incredible (I am generally not a spa person at all) so we need to book Spa Passes.  I'd prefer to wait until we board so we can use OBC, but I suspect the prices go up and also I am concerned that they might sell out.  Any insight on this?

I'd say you stand a fairly good chance of getting an upgrade, there are relatively few OV cabins on Seaside and there are numerous reports of OV bookings going to balconies.  Thermal spa access is much more costly once on the ship.

Thank you!  I went ahead and pre-booked the spa.  $130 vs $200 is a big difference.  I am sure I will find something else to spend the OBC on :classic_biggrin:

I will cross my fingers for an upgrade, but I am happy enough with the ocean view knowing I have the Spa for a nice relaxing spot.

All of the inside guarantee's I have booked were upgraded to balconies (twice) or ocean view (once), either instantly on booking or in the couple of weeks before the cruise.  Of course there is no guarantee of an upgrade, but my guess is that the guarantees are generally offered where no inventory of inside rooms exists, but MSC still want to offer the low prices (and not discourage potential customers from booking a balcony).

I am new to MSC, and just looking at booking on the Bellissima.  So an I1 Bella inside guarantee may result in a better room than I2 Fantastica where we can pick?  My wife tends to get seasick, so was thinking a guaranteed lower deck might be better, but if we can get assigned a balcony, we may take the gamble.

I have booked MSC Divina for Nov this year with TA. Do the above mentioned upgrades happen if booking with a TA or with MSC direct?

If you book a 'guarantee' you're almost certainly guaranteed to be upgraded;  we've been upgraded twice - both times when booked with a TA (once on a 'guarantee' booking and another time when we had chosen our cabin).

I'm not sure that MSC offers 'guarantee' bookings to customers who book direct - they're more likely to assign a cabin at booking.  However, you could receive an upgrade from that.

Thank you for that. My booking is guarantee with no cabin allocated at this stage.

I did not get an upgrade for my March 2018 cruise, and I booked a guarantee ocean view.  It was assigned within hours of making my booking.  This time it has been about a week, and no assignment yet, so hoping for a wee little upgrade.  No worries though, as we had a fabulous time in our lowly Bella Oceanview.

I booked through their casino both times, so I am not sure if that is considered a direct booking or not.

Good luck to everyone hoping for an upgrade!

We were originally booked in an inside bella for a transatlantic cruise on the Divina (I was able to choose the room, deck 8.) I opted to pay the difference to upgrade to a guaranteed bella balcony ($1330 more for 2ppl on a 20N cruise) and we were assigned a Fatastica balcony on deck 13 in less than 12 hours (we are after the final payment date).  I'm pretty pleased. I had a moment of panic after I saw some of the terrible balcony options (which I would have been just fine with had we paid for IS or OV). Have you seen the aft bella balconies on deck 13? LAWD!!

Make sure you're not in one of the small two person balconies where they are four cabins across from port to starboard.  Those are extremely small and don't even have a couch or real chair to sit on.

We're good I think. 13070. I believe we are directly below a divider between the two pools so I'm hoping no chair scraping either.

I think the big overhang will be fine. We had a balcony for a Nov Caribbean cruise and it honestly was too "bright" and warm to sit on for a better part of the day. I'm just wondering if we will miss the sun given it is a transatlantic cruise in November. I expect we will have cooler weather at times.

I booked my upcoming cruise over a year out. I booked an inside guarantee. About 8 months before I was upgraded from inside to a balcony. I was very pleased and surprised. However I wonder if this would ever happen again now that you can pay to upgrade.
