How did you find out about Celebrity Cruises?

We found Celebrity through dear friends who sail frequently. We had traveled with them on land independently.  They went on our first cruise with us in 2013 and several since! Hadn’t really known about Celebrity  before then.

In 1999 we decided to go on an Alaskan cruise, we visited a travel agent when she was looking she found a deal . She said wow that's a great price for a upscale line like Celebrity. Never heard of Celebrity. We cruised on Galaxy and loved it. They merged with Royal shortly after.

The question posed was How Did Find Out About Celebrity.

I gave MY answer Read & Computers. Perfect answer - period.

Oh my goodness, don't be so sensitive I wasn't challenging your answer, just including it in my comment.  I did answer the question because my 1st X cruise was before I had a PC or internet.  I found out about them through my TA and travel magazines.

Our daughter took her first cruise, with a girl friend, on Eclipse and raved about it! Then they cruised X again, with their spouses, and raved even more. She swore we would love it, and she was right. We had already cruised with a few other lines, but X is our current favorite.

All the way back to 1998 when we accidently discovered the Zenith. We had never been on such a wonderful ship with such impressive service and food. I will never forget this Cruise. Now 35 Celebrity Cruises later we are still fans. Even with all the changes.

Here in the Phoenix metro area, I do not recall any cruise line advertising with regularity, but then again we don't watch most network programming.  After taking a short NCL cruise to see if we would like crusing, I started investigating the different lines and reading what I could find.  Our TA also advised that Celebrity would be a good fit for us, and it is!

We had decided in 1993 to celebrate our 25th Anniversary by taking our first cruise.  Our TA sent us brochures (!) for RCI, Carnival and X and we studied those.  No one we knew had been on a cruise and we did not own a computer.

Actually decided on Carnival but the TA told us the ship was going to be in dry dock the week we chose.  She strongly recommended Celebrity so  we sailed on Zenith and were hooked.

Recently celebrated our 50th Anniversary on Celebrity with a TransAtlantic cruise.

I live in NYC and very rarely see Celebrity ads on television. Norwegian, Royal and Carnival ads air frequently but I honestly can't remember the last time I saw one for Celebrity (or Princess, for that matter). However, I read a number of food magazines (Saveur, Bon Appetit, etc.) and there is always a Celebrity print ad included, usually along with Viking, Crystal, Oceania, Azamara, etc. I don't recall for certain but I am fairly sure that's where I first learned of Celebrity, though I booked our first X cruise based on internet research of various lines.

In a previous career I occasionally rode pilot boats out to merchant vessels. The company I worked for bought a lot of cargo.  Our cargo required an entire ship. I was fairly high up in the company we would greet the ships as they arrived.  I will keep it short. It was fun/interesting to ride the pilot boat and climb the ladder. I would be escorted to the bridge where the Captain and officers would greet us in their dress whites. They would typically have tables with their best fruits, vegetables, and meats presented to us. I always thanked the captain for his generosity but not partake because I respected the crew. My wife preposed going on a cruise to me and obviously I was jaded. I was very resistant to the idea. Eventually I agreed to go on a cruise and agreed not to complain if I didn’t like it. My wife’s friend recommended celebrity. So off we went on the millennium.  My wife was right, as usual,  I fell in love with cruising. Now I am the the one who encourages us to book the next cruise. By the way, my wife is my best friend, so by saying she was right isn’t condescending, it is a complement.

I used to commute into Vancouver from the burbs where I live and the commuter  train I took was right next to the cruise port.  Saw Celebrity ships there in the Alaska cruise season.

We had cruised Holland and Princess before and were looking for an itinerary that would bring us back to Vancouver from Hawaii.  For us it was the internet that was the source, It was a choice of Celebrity and Royal Caribbean and we chose Celebrity.  We thoroughly enjoyed the whole trip, especially the no smoking in the casino!

We we are now booked on the Reflection in January and are very excited 😆

Back in 2001 a travel agent talked us into Celebrity.  We were three couples looking for a cruise vacation.  For two of the couples it would be their first cruise.  We have been solid Celebrity cruisers since, although we have strayed several times.

Well my introduction was very negative! I’d finally persuaded my mum to cruise and we were on a Disney cruise (don’t knock them - we did 17 as adults only and loved them till they priced themselves out!) and one of our ports was Grand Cayman. This was about 25 years ago and we were on a Captain Marvin excursion and my abiding memory of the fellow guests were those from Celebrity guarding their beach towels as they would be charged if they didn’t return them. Well Disney didn’t charge for those and in those very early internet days that put me off the cruise line. Then about 7 years ago I saw an advert for Silhouette with the Lawn Club and I decided to try then - 13 cruises later we love them.

Our first cruises were on RCCL when the kids were kids and I guess we saw ads for Celebrity there.

Yes, same for us: started on Royal and moved across - Azamara next to try!

We had mainly cruised Royal and had just reached I forget what loyalty level that would enable us to have access to a lounge without being in a suite.  I was thrilled!  Then Royal redid the point level and we were demoted.  Bummer.  But in their let down letter they did mention Celebrity (which I’d only vaguely heard of and hated the name) and that our Royal points would transfer.  So we sailed on Infinity (followed by Mercury, Century and then Solstice) and we were hooked.  Bye bye Royal!  And thanks!

The reason I'm curious is that here in the US, I have never in my life seen an advertisement or commercial for Celebrity. Carnival, Norwegian, and RCCL advertise regularly though. I decided we were going to take our first cruise, so I started researching what line would suit us best.

I was really only looking at the previous 3 I mentioned, but as I was reading and watching videos I saw another line called Celebrity, so I started digging into who they were since I had never heard of it. Before long, after reading and researching I felt Celebrity clicked the most boxes for us so I booked our first cruise last fall and we cruised in December. I ended up loving it and never even saw any commercial or advertisement, Although I've spoken to friends in the UK who says Celebrity advertises heavily there.

We started sailing Carnival with our kids 15 years ago, after a few years DH and I were looking for a different cruise line.

This is the commercial I saw that started the whole thing, and boy am I glad.

We found out about celebrity cruises by googling..... we live in Auckland New Zealand and we get a slight glimpse of the harbour from our house.... we see most of the cruise ships leaving in the evening and we jokingly said "one day that will be us"

Then early 2017 wife was googling cruises and we looked at a few cruises.....  We were tossing up between 2 cruises we liked the look of.

One was a 7-8 day cruise around Hawaii on Norwegian cruises and the other was a 12 day cruise from Sydney Australia up to the Great Barrier Reef on Celebrity Solstice. Both cruises were about the same price.

We chose Celebrity because it was cheaper to fly to Sydney than to Hawaii and we thought 12 nights was better value for money than paying the same for 7-8 nights.

When we started to do more research it appeared that Celebrity cater for more of an 'adult market' and the last thing we wanted to do was go on holiday with hundreds of screaming kids (apologies to anyone who does have kids) so we chose Celebrity.

It simply was the best holiday we've ever had and we now have 2 further cruises booked on Celebrity (1 in 2020 and 1 in 2021)

Wife spoke to a friend in the weekend who said "Why don't you try another cruise company"? - we are too scared to try another cruise liner, just in case they are not up to the standard as Celebrity.... and we don't want to fork out thousands of $$$ only to be disappointed.

Back in the late 1990's, a documentary was shown on TV over a number of weeks here in the UK called The Cruise.

It featured a British singer (Jane Mc Donald) who was performing onboard the brand new ship the Celebrity Galaxy. The ship was sailing in the Caribbean over the Christmas holidays and featured numerous crew members as well as passengers during their cruise.

Watching this programme made us want to sail on a Celebrity Cruise. There are old episodes of this programme and Return to the cruise on YouTube although the picture quality is poor.

I'm sure this programme attracted a lot of new business for Celebrity so I'm surprised they haven't commissioned further programmes on the new ships (Princess have featured on similar programmes over the last couple of years on Royal Princess but the shows weren't as good as the old Celebrity one).

I learned of X back in the early 90s because I used to subscribe to a cruise magazine, but the ships didn’t appeal to me at all.  My mom had a friend who raved about X but stated that it was so formal, it was almost stuffy.

Several years later, 2001, my husband and I were walking past a travel agency and there was a poster in the window advertising their soon-to-be newest ship , the Infinity , to Alaska. We walked in, chatted with the agent, booked a cruise, and loved every minute of it. In those days, the service was so good, and the food was delicious in the MDR. Celebrity set the bar pretty high back then. That cruise will always remain very special since it was our first cruise together, although I had previously cruised on other lines.  It was my husband’s very first cruise.

We are from Auckland NZ and had friends go on the Millennium early 2000s and they couldnt speak more highly of their experience.  Fast forward 10 or so years, we decided to go on our first cruise and consulted our TA about cruiseline options - celebrity was our pick - loved the brand and Solstice class ships are just beautiful in our opinion - so an 11 night cruise up the sunshine coast of Australia got us hooked!  We've been on Solstice 4 times and our next is Silhouette Trans Atlantic in Oct.

We were regular RC cruisers and vaguely knew about Celebrity as a ‘partner’ cruise line. One day we were moored on an RC ship next to an M class in Athens. From our balcony we could see the PH balcony....We dreamed of one day cruising in one of them...

We have seen the odd Celebrity ad on U.K. TV but no where near as many as P and O or Fred Olsen...Celebrity ads are a bit like those car ads where the car is driving through a flaming forest....tell you nothing about the product whatsoever.

And she’s now winning awards for her cruise programme on Channel 5 - great series, very informative on many different cruise lines and worldwide offerings.
