Buying salmon in Alaska, shipping to California

We've used the riverboat discovery salmon from Fairbanks.  We took an excursion eleven years ago, had some shipped to us, and have been using them ever since.

If you buy it onboard and fly home, there may be TSA issues.  At the time, they asked all of us if we had cans of salmon in our carry-ons.  Don't understand their problem, because, that salmon isn't a liquid.

It is always wise to price out (before the cruise) what it would cost to simply order the same (or similar) product online.  Just Google something like "smoked salmon from Alaska."   Once you are armed with the online prices you can compare to what it costs to buy and ship from Alaska and which is the best value.  And if you are a member of Costco you might want to check-out the Smoked Wild Sockeye Salmon which is all sourced from Alaska.   I have had the Costco stuff and it compares well (and sometimes beats) what we have had in Alaska.

I’ve used Taku in Juneau. They are right at the dock.

When I do the run between Seward and Juneau you get into Juneau before seven and one can watch the fish coming off the boats and up the cover right into the Taku plant.  You know the fish is fresh and they catch lots of Salmon

I have not tried them, but they sure look good at the store.

The ones we have had from Costco are every bit as good as the ones at Tracy's Crab Shack.  I laugh every time I read a comment waxing poetic about "oooooh fresh King Crab at Tracy's"..... Tracy's King Crab is frozen.
