Don't you love these statistics?

It's not hard to have 6-7 drinks even on a port day.

Totally agree, I had to give up drinking years back but don’t for a minute derstand how anyone thins 6 or 7 a day, while on holidays is big drinking,

one or two before dinner, a couple with your meal and a couple during th3 show, your done, then on sea days a couple with lunch and an afternoon tipple and ou are streets ahead.

Thanks for all the responses. So it definitely doesn’t make sense for me to get this then since I am not a big drinker and have excursions planned at every destination.

I will buy my drinks as needed

thanks again to all who replied 🙂

What do you normally drink?   Beer, wine or mixed?  Do you enjoy soda, bottled water, milkshakes, bottled iced tea, energy drinks, vitamin water or espresso based hot or cold drinks?  All of the aforementioned non alcoholic drinks are included with Cheers and are unlimited.  You really only need to drink about 4 or 5 per day of alcoholic drinks and a few of the non alcoholic ones to make it worthwhile.

Also, if you get off the ship at each port, those are hours you're not using the Cheers package.

Even though you may be off the ship till 430, you could have 5 drinks between 500 and 1100, which would be 90 minutes apart and you have gotten your monies worth.

get the pricey drinks, only takes 4/day!

ive only sailed once without unlim beverages and it cost me dearly, on ncl.  a knob creek on the rocks was $22, for comparison.

Nope its good everywhere on the ship!!  Bars, restaurants, dining rooms all good

Sorry, you're wrong.  It is not good for stuff in your minibar as well as the self serve beer dispensers and ergonomic wine dispensers on board.

it appears some people will drink anything expensive, even if they don't like it so they feel they get their monies worth, so sad

Something we agree on. I tried the $17 Grey Goose VX last time because it was apparently so amazing, only to shake my head so hard that people will spend $1000 so they can have an $80 bottle.

I also don't remember seeing $22 Knob Creek

What mini bars?

Joebucks, we are vodka drinkers and drink Kettle One at home, unfortunately CCL discontinued carrying it. We tried the regular Gray Goose and did not like the aftertaste. We settled on Belvedere which was very good. We tried the VX in the Steakhouse and thought it was worse than regular GG.

Grey Goose is great marketing but I agree with you that it's not a great tasting product. We're also vodka drinkers and we've found that Russian Standard suits our tastes better than any of the others. We also have a locally distilled vodka that is a close 2nd for us but I don't think it's available outside Canada (and certainly not on a cruise ship).

Did you try Tito's?

It seems that on debarkation day, day 7, you really are not going to be spending any dollars on the Cheers pkg.  there will be no one serving drinks as everyone are getting off.  I think that’s a rip off.

Debarkation is actually Day 8 and is not a day you get drinks. Day 7 is a full day on the ship or in port and on the ship on a 7 day cruise

Can you order alcohol on debarkation morning?  I've actually been wondering about that for a while.

People who get the cheers package and can do it for 7 days straight at 10-15 drinks per day more power to you. With me and my wife it is not worth it since we cannot do it. We bring our 2 bottles of wine on board which takes 2 days to finish (me drinking most of it) and after that my wife will get 1 drink in the evening and I may do 1 drink in the afternoon and 2 or 3 in the evening. I could probably do 10 drinks in one day but the next day I will be basically a zombie recovering from all the drinks the previous day.

I love these Cheers threads because it always turns into a bunch of teetotalers shaking their fingers at anyone who wants to cut loose on their vacations.

In the locked thread about chair hogs, a guy here actually looked up my old posts and quoted me in a post I made last year how my wife and I can easily drink ten drinks. It was laughable.

Here's my take:

We have had Cheers on every cruise we have taken since it was offered. We do enjoy the package and regularly hit about 13 a day or more in addition to coffees. We don't get drunk, or even try to hit 15, we just pace ourselves and enjoy our vacation. I am a little worried though that a lot of CC members are touting Cheers as the way to go. Personally, I would rather the opposite was true. I see it as the less passengers purchase Cheers, the potential increases for the price to go down. And, of course, the more popular it is, the higher the chance of the price going up.

I think it is just the opposite. The more people that purchase Cheers, the more money Carnival is going to make.

I'm thinking of getting this, maybe, $250. I've only spent about $200 in drink on my cruises.

Unless you're already planning ahead to increase your spending/drinking, DO NOT go this route. 🙂 Cruise Cash is non-refundable, and tied to the booking you purchase it for.

You also need to factor in Starbucks and Bottled Water you get with the package.  The break even without those is usually about 6 drinks a day but being able to grab a coffee in the morning/afternoon or bottled water knocked that down for us.  We almost always grabbed a water when we ordered a drink.  We also brought a couple of bottles down to the room at the end of the night.

6 drinks over a days span is not a lot.  On port days, we would come back and have a few drinks by the pool before getting ready for dinner.  Usually have a couple of drinks with dinner and then have several drinks after dinner while at the shows, clubs, or casino.  On sea days of course that number increased.

Just a reminder...I know everyone has answered the question...But it seems that when people ask about the value the cost of the Bubbles package... which is included.. is never considered...

Cheers minus Bubbles is about 42 per day...You get Sodas, juices, Specialty coffee, milkshakes, non-alcoholic  mocktails, and mixed drinks.  No doubt worth it, esp purchased prior to Cruise.  Happy Cruising!!!

Interesting take on things. Ultimately I think the cruise lines know cruisers are pretty savvy. I would say that on almost all my cruises, there are more return cruisers than first timers.

People will "do the math" so to speak and if it makes sense, they will continue to buy. If the lines raise the prices on beverage packages, you will see a return of sneaking on booze, or simply cutting down on their drinking.

And we know the lines make their money from the casinos and booze so I don't see them biting the hand that feeds them. Just take a look at what happened when Holland tried to charge for a second entree. Did not go over well.
