Puerto Vallarta private or small group tours

Does anyone have any suggestions for private or small group tours in Puerto Vallarta?  We'd like to go out to Mauritus Islands or something similar on one day and some sort of dune buggy type thing another day.

We are doing a land vacation this time, but I know and trust my CC buddies to not lead me astray.

Never heard of Mauritius Islands near Vallarta, maybe you mean the Marietas Islands? That is a small national park out in the bay. It can only be reached by boat, certainly not by car. Some tours are incl. a visit to the hidden beach there, but be aware visits are limited to certified operators. Even then a visit depends on the tide as you have to swim through a kind of cave to get there.

Since your time might be limited I am not so sure it will work. Shorter tours are offered from Punta de Mita, but you need to take a cab for a drive of about 45/60 minutes one way.

Canopyriver has canopy tours and also some buggy rides incl a specteculair ride over the long Jurillo bridge. https://canopyriver.com/

Also this website has various tours:  vallarta info site: https://vallartainfo.com/

For small groups I would recommend Vista Paraiso. They are located to the north far away from the Puerto Vallarta crowds that cram the tours especially on cruise ship days. Vista Paraiso offers ATVs, RZRs, horseback riding at an actual working ranch ( full gallop along a secluded beach) and Puerto Vallarta's largest zip line area. About 5.5 hours round trip with pickups 5 minutes away from the terminal. We have gone 8 times with Vista Paraiso and have averaged less than 8 people on the tours. The 2 times during a cruise ship day when we went there were five people on the tours.  Most others tours will be crammed,  busy and rushed.
