For those who purchase Cheers, what is your normal drinking habits?

Wondering how much you all normally drink to know that  you will get your "money's worth" with Cheers

I might have one sea day where i hit 10....my Husband and BIL see 15 as a goal. You only need 5-6 to equal cost of package. Early In the cruise I will drink more which makes up for the end of the cruise when I barely drink. Also specialty coffees, bottle water , bottled tea

 

Value is subjective with cheers many arguments for and against......definitely a painful button to hit in cruise manager....my upcoming cruise works out to $980....ouch...but all is forgotten when you step on the ship and grab your first drink!

I'm mostly a beer drinker with a few mixed drinks, probably a 75/25 percent ratio. On sea days I almost always hit my 15 since I'll have my first beer around noon or so, and keep going until the club shuts down. Port days are a mixed bag depending on where it is. On my Paradise cruise last week we did an all-inclusive at Cozumel, so by the time I was back on the ship I probably only had a few drinks. I feel that Cheers is worth it for me since I drink quite a bit while I'm on vacation and like having the bar bill known up front. I also like having unlimited sodas, coffees and bottles of water.

Oh man, I mean to put "at home, not on the cruise", when asking about normal drinking habits at home that encourage folks to want to purchase Cheers

Ah, at home.  Daily? Zero.  In fact, I go for weeks at a time with no drinks at all.  I do have a nice bottle of Ardbeg Uigedail that I might have a dram or two of on special occasions.

 

But on the cruise, it's wide open buzz for me all day.  And it's lovely.  Never hit 15, got close ONCE, but didn't worry a moment.

I think you should have a few more options.  At home, I tend to drink 0 Sunday-Thursday and then 5-6 on Fridays and Saturdays.  However, I am not working while on a cruise, so I feel like I can partake in a lot more drinks.

At home, one a night about 3 nights a week.  On the ship- all day, and never feel more than a buzz.

At home not heavy drinkers a few on the weekends mostly but on vacation yes. Usually start the morning with a mimosa and then a shot or two mid morning, a few drinks by the pool, a couple martinis before dinner, wine with a dinner and maybe a drink watching a show. Not hard to hit 15. We both did on our last cruise on Liberty and the way we pace ourselves we were definitely never drunk just happy. I agree hard to hit that purchase button every time but never regretted it.  Add in the coffees water and energy drinks too.

Clearly this post is meant to stir the bucket from someone who for some unknown reason feels superior for not drinking much while on vacation

 

• The vast majority of people drink more (maybe much more) on vacation than at home
• You don't need 10 drinks to break even with cheers
• If you don't find cheers to be worthwhile to you, here's a crazy thought -- don't buy it

As stated before, one only needs to have 5-6 alcoholic drinks per day to break even. I, myself, will usually have 4-5 alcoholic drinks per day while on a cruise. On top of that I will also have a couple of specialty coffees, tea, a couple of waters, perhaps another bottled tea. After that, I am getting more than my money’s worth. As for my drinking habits at home...I never have a drink through the week. I may have 1 drink on the weekend and perhaps a glass or two of wine. 

The OP is  obviously assuming that people who buy Cheers are drunks. They are not.

I don't drink at all when I am at home ... to many of my family members are alcoholics so its a personal choice not to drink "on land" but to only drink when I cruise and seeing how my last cruise i tossed back 10 tequilla shots in 3 hours on an all inclusive beach (i say this as i figured they are watered down) and even on the boat i can toss back 4 to 5 of patrone before it hits me - needless to say i am glad i dont drink at home since i know how i drink on the boat 

 

i never thought cheers was worth it and yes i drink more because i have cheers then i would if i was self paying but I really love that i can try something and not feel bad if i dont like it and dont drink it ... i also love that its prepaid for and i dont need to concern myself with what i owe at the end of the cruise

You should add less options Too.

I am averaging about 1 unit of alcohol a month at the moment.

 

But I do buy or accept the drinks package at the right price or as a perk.

 

So then I might drink 4 alcohol drinks a day. But I also drink speciality coffees and teas.

 

We keep track of everything we drink and we break even.

 

I like having the drinks pre-paid, but only if there was a deal with the drinks package.

 

I would never for example buy NCL's drinks package as it would never be worth it.

We just got off the Freedom and had our first experience with the Cheers package.  

A few notes from a first time Cheers user.

 

First Texas has some weird alcohol laws like no Cheers while in Texas waters, bottles not delivered to cabins until the 2nd day.

So the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Board treats a cruise ship in Texas waters just like a big bar or night club.

 

Still Carnival handles this well by not charging you the Cheers fee for the day in Texas waters. You pay with your sail and sign like anyone else.  

It really surprised us the number of $20-$25 tickets we signed the first day.  Think our bar bill was about $140 for two for the the first day.  So it is fairly easy to break even for a casual drinker.

 

Second - the freedom from worrying about a bar bill was fantastic!!  We tried all kinds of drinks - Alchemy Bar was great. Did not think twice about a bloody mary at breakfast or a drink or glass of wine at dinner.  Enjoyed drinks at comedy shows, theater shows, Kareote, etc..  Tried drinks I never would of tried had I been paying per drink.  Some were great, some not so good.

 

For us, it was something I would defintly do again.

Id like to know why the poll options are so limited. Especially for drinking at home. I'm pretty sure no one who has a normal lifestyle (job, family, bills to pay, basic life expectations) is having ten drinks or more per day at home. That is just silly.

 

I never reached ten alcohol drinks even on the ship with Cheers. But we kept track, and including water and coffees, plus the bottled iced tea at the coffee shop, we easily broke even. And the freedom of being able to try anything I wanted was really great.

I hardly drink at all (might average a couple a month) but I can still get my money's worth on a drink package.

At home, 3 or 4 drinks in a month or two, when company comes over.

 

On a cruise, I'll probably have 5-10 drinks a day, but also a couple nice coffees and lots of water.  The Alchemy Bar becomes my hang-out place in the evening.

It doesn't matter what we drink at home or on a cruise. None of Your Business.  What matters is what you drink and if you think your habits are different enough on a cruise then Cheers my be worth it. but yes, I'll opine that Cheers is an opportunity to try different higher quality drinks than you might have at home or on a cruise without Cheers.

 

There are a couple of excel programs floating around that can provide insight into whether or not it's worth it.  Usually 5-8 cocktails or 8-10 beers plus specialty coffees, etc. make the cut.  But that has to be for each of the cabin adult occupants.  Your spouse can't buy you drink off Cheers to get him/her up to breakeven.

At home: Sunday - Thursday: ~1-3 total

At home: Friday / Saturday: ~5-15 total

 

On a cruise: ~2-4 a day without Cheers. 

With Cheers: ~5-10 a a day

We drink 4-10 drinks per month which is 1-2 times (think wedding, xmas party ect) when home. The boys probably drink more than that but I think they keep it limited to getting hammered on Fridays and Saturdays with their friends. 

 

We max out our 15 Drinks on Us at the Casino or 15 Cheers daily on vacation but both of us (and our boys) usually start drinking after the gym in the morning or if we skip, at breakfast.

This is why we will never cruise out of Texas on Carnival. Our bar bill would easily be over $200 on day one.

I feel this survey is skewed.  At home I drink very little.  Maybe 4 drinks a whole month.  Get me on a cruise and I drink about 10 a day.  I also get bottled waters, powerade/gatorade drinks, frou-frou coffees, etc in addition to my many alcoholic drinks.  Last cruise I totaled up what the hubs and I would have spent and it was nearly $1200.  Definitely worth the money for us to get Cheers.
