Jodes3822 Posted June 4, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 4, 2019 We will be on the Celebrity Millennium in a few months. Do they provide an ID Lanyard or is one even needed? I will purchase in advance if they don't provide and we should have one.

Rare 1025cruise Posted June 4, 2019 #4 Share Posted June 4, 2019 I keep my card in my pocket. No lanyard for me.
Denny01 Posted June 4, 2019 #5 Share Posted June 4, 2019 (edited) Lanyards? Lanyards??? I don’t Wear No Stinking Lanyard!!! Oops, I’m sorry. You don’t care about what I wear but I just can’t keep from quoting ‘Gold Hat’ in the movie ‘Treasure of Sierra Madre’ . Pick a neat one you have at home that is unique! Maybe with a quote: “Yes, I’m wearing a Lanyard, but I know where my Card is. Do You?” Den Edited June 4, 2019 by Denny01 4
Rare mom says Posted June 4, 2019 #6 Share Posted June 4, 2019 Lanyards are not required and are not given away. However if you feel that you require one, either buy one before leaving home, or buy one in the ship's gift shop. We've never found a need for one, but YMMV.
jelayne Posted June 4, 2019 #7 Share Posted June 4, 2019 We had to wear ID badges at work and I swore when I retired I would never wear a badge around my neck, clipped to my blouse or my jacket. My sea pass is in my pocket or wristlet.

bikerunner Posted June 4, 2019 #9 Share Posted June 4, 2019 Same as many, Im good in keeping it in my pocket, usually just use one of my card holders to carry it around. Only reason in that is what I also take off ship with ID and CC along with some cash. I see many with the lanyards, personally I just wouldn't like them.

No, lanyards are not needed although they are available for sale in the ship's gift shop.

Not needed by many of us, but a good idea for some. I wear a travel Vest with lots of pockets inwhich to put various things I can’t live without. My wife loves watching me flail through all the pockets looking for my SeaPass: at the gangway, the security entry and at our SR door. Oh well. There was an amusing long thread about lanyards and those who wear them a short time ago. Yes, after reading that thread, I asked myself if I really needed my lanyard. I lost my seapass during our first visit to the casino. So, yes, some of us really need them. Sometimes there are vendors in the cruise terminal that sell lanyards. Sometimes they don't. If you need one, bring it with you.
Orator Posted June 4, 2019 #13 Share Posted June 4, 2019 Consider yourslf lucky if the only thing you lost in the Casino was your Seapass Card. 4
bikerunner Posted June 4, 2019 #14 Share Posted June 4, 2019 I tend to be creature of habit of where I keep my card holder so I do understand the reasoning why some need the lanyards.
wwcruisers Posted June 4, 2019 #15 Share Posted June 4, 2019 I don't wear a lanyard, mainly because I don't like having things around my neck. (At an early age, I took the sad fate of Isadora Duncan as a cautionary tale.😱) However, as a woman who has cruised for 15 years, I still struggle with the conundrum of just where to put my sea-pass card. The designers of women's apparel long ago decided that we don't need pockets. So, we carry purses everywhere we go (even onboard). Problem with that is: most purses -- even the small 'clutch' variety, have powerful magnets in their latches. That can result in multiple trips to the Guest relations desk, just to get your Sea-Pass card re-magnetized. (I'm so hoping that the new 'chip' cards will solve THAT problem, at least). My point is: I would never judge anyone (especially a fellow female traveler) for wearing their Sea-Pass card on a lanyard! And Den -- I envy you your multi-pocketed travel vest!😉

mac66 Posted June 4, 2019 #17 Share Posted June 4, 2019 (edited) Back when the kids were small and cruised with us we wore lanyards. Easy to keep track of that way. As we matured and the kids stopped going with us we kind of got away from wearing them. I think the perception is that only rookie cruisers wear them. On the other hand I lost my sea pass card on my last cruise and thought that I had never lost one while wearing a lanyard. So now I thinking of going back to wearing one just to keep track of it now that I'm older and more forgetful. Bottom line...Lanyards are handy to have sometimes. If you're self conscious about wearing one out in the open wear it under your shirt. Edited June 4, 2019 by mac66
late2cruisin Posted June 4, 2019 #18 Share Posted June 4, 2019 We have cruised 20+ times and had never worn a lanyard (although we did forget/misplace our sea pass more than a few times) On our recent Millennium cruise, one of the prizes they gave out for winning a daily Trivia game was a Celebrity lanyard, so we each got one. I never got used to wearing mine, but DH wore his all the time and found it very convenient (with the new chip, he was able to open our cabin door without taking the sea pass out of the lanyard) 1
cangelmd Posted June 5, 2019 #19 Share Posted June 5, 2019 (edited) LOL, as my dear Mama would say “you would lose your head if it wasn’t tied on!” I use my lanyard, I keep it in my pool bag with Kindle and crosswords and a little cash. I even occasionally take it out of the bag and hang it around my neck, especially if the bag gets too full and I’m pawing thru it looking for the lanyard. Now if I could just get a lanyard for my head... Edited June 5, 2019 by cangelmd

MJSailors Posted June 5, 2019 #21 Share Posted June 5, 2019 Celebrity used to give “leather” cruise card holders to Concierge guests ( and perhaps higher level cabins). We received one on a Summit cruise we took in 2011. I have kept it with my travel bags and use it on cruises. It is slim, tucks into a pocket or small purse and I can always find my cruise card. IMHO,lanyards remind me too much of work places that require such an accessory. i am on vacation, not at a workplace. Also, some passengers may forget or not realize they are wearing the lanyard when they get off a boat in port. That is a sure sign to anyone that you are a tourist in a foreign land and may make you a target for nefarious activity. Please, remove the lanyard and stow it in a pocket ,purse or tote bag. Or,tuck it inside your shirt. Just a reminder for safety- be careful out there !

TeaBag Posted June 5, 2019 #23 Share Posted June 5, 2019 Lanyards are sometimes given out as prizes for trivia. That's how I got mine. I often do not have a pocket and it comes in handy then.
CYNSport Posted June 5, 2019 #24 Share Posted June 5, 2019 I rarely have pockets, so I like to use a lanyard on the ship. I am both amused and gobsmacked by those who have firm opinions about whether or not other people should use them. This is, of course, the tip of the iceberg when it comes to opinionated cruisers who post on this forum. 🤯 1 1

Fortunately, between us, my DH and I have collection of those, from past cruises. We still use them -- when we can remember to pack them, that is. I've found that the leather (or is it pleather?) provides a little protection from the de-magnetizing effects that my various purses tend to have on Sea-Pass cards. Also, the card-holder's extra pocket comes in handy for an additional form of ID (going ashore) or a little 'tip $$' (going to the bars/lounges onboard). Sadly, my clothes STILL have virtually no pockets, so I have to figure out how to carry my Sea-Pass AND its handy little pleather holder!😏 Edited June 5, 2019 by wwcruisers
