Question about back to back cruises

I'm thinking about booking 2 cruises back to back, as it would be a veranda guarantee room, do you know what will happen for the change over? will I be able to keep the same room, or have to re-pack and move rooms?

Will I have to disembark and then embark again?

Any info would be helpful.

Thank you

You will be allocated the same room for the entire cruise and you stay on for the changeover day.

And you now have an added bonus, you don’t have to do the safety drill a second time (as in the past)

BTW: Even if you were to change rooms, its no hassle; all your clothes in the robe are put on a mobile hanging rail, you put your loose items in supplied baskets, take your valuables out of the safe and Seabourn moves everything for you. Only takes a few minutes.

Are you sure this is fleet wide?  When we did three sailings on Sojourn last year we had to go only once, but when we did four sailings on Quest later, we had to go all four times because of “Captain’s orders” as it was explained to us. This led us to believe it’s up to the Captain to decide how he wants to run the drills.

Interesting that they assign the same room for both segments. I always thought that with a “guarantee” they could assign you anything. Good to know, thanks.

When you book back-to-back they will try to keep you in the same cabin for both segments but there has to be one that meets your guarantee class and is available for both legs - not usually a problem but not guaranteed.

Normally, changeover day is a "normal" port call for "through passengers." They may or may not have a shuttle available (as they do for most port calls where the town is not adjacent to the port) but you should have regular access to shore and back aboard.

In general, you are no longer required to attend a second safety drill if you are within 30 days of the last one.

We did a back to back on the Quest in April/May of this year. We did have to change cabins since the booking category was different on segment one (higher category) and we did not want to pay the difference to upgrade to a category six for segment two.  The mechanics of changing cabins were straight forward  and well coordinated by our cabin stewardess. We made arrangements to put our valuables in the Purser's safe as we had an early excursion on the change over day and our new cabin was not available.

We did have to attend the safety drill even though we had been to one 16 days earlier when we departed Barbados.

Were you OB? Had you booked the segments separately or had they been marketed as one single trip?

We booked the segments separately within a week.  Segment 1 had a promotion  - guarantee balcony with two category upgrade; segment 2 was a guarantee balcony but no upgrade.  We were offered cabin 604 for both legs of the trip but that would have cost more so we passed. Final assignments were 620 and 615.

We never had to change cabins on 3 different back to back cruises booked as OB/GTY (but all 3 being booked back to back but as 1 contiguous cruise).

Regarding repeating the life board drill as an 'in transit' passenger, I think it may be port specific as some countries are more strict on the life boat drill attendance that others.  We were on a SB cruise from Lisbon shortly after the Concordia disaster and there was a Portugal safety officer onboard for the drill. Two 'in transit' passengers were put off the ship for not attending the life boat drill (after a 2 hour search of the ship for these passengers).

Here is a fun fact, as an in transit passenger, you will get a behind the scenes look of the 10am to 2pm turnaround as the ship staff prepares for the new passengers.  It's great fun.
