smuniak Posted April 15, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2004 They have swapped out Costa Maya for Key West… Not sure if I should be bummed out or not, we were looking forward to seeing Key West. We have never been to the FL Keys before. From what I can tell this port is not Playa del Carmen – we have been there on land the past two years. Where is this place – and what is there to do with kids 13, 12 and 9? Steve
stlrboo Posted April 15, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2004 I'd opt for Costa Maya in a heartbeat, only because I wouldn't be real thrilled about taking children of 13, 12 and 9 to KeyWest! It's generally OK during the day, but can get 'different' once the 'party' starts! Guest Posted April 15, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2004 We were in Costa Maya last week and really liked it.There is shopping right when you get off the ship. We took a taxi into Majahul. Found some grat deals and stopped at Tarpus a bar and restaurant on the beach I had guamola (?) dip , it was delicious and my husband had a shrimp dish which he loved. You were also able to get in the water there. Looked like a fun pool area in the shopping area when you get off the ship.
dsclark Posted April 15, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2004 I'd rather snorkel in Costa Maya than visit the t shirt stores of Key West. I consider it an upgrade. BTW, I'll also be on the 6/19 sailing of the glory!
afdds Posted April 15, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 15, 2004 Hi, I argree with dsclark 100%. We just got back from a week in the Key Largo area. Drove down about 2 hours to visit Key West. What a waste of time and gas! It was just one T-shirt shop after the other. The sunset and the evening street theater was OK. The drive down was the nicest part. Knights on the Beach Posted April 15, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 15, 2004 Another one here happy to be going to Costa Maya! Actually, I was looking forward to visiting Key West -- I'm a native Floridian who's never been there! BUT, we can always drive down there! It's NOT likely I'll be driving to Costa Maya, though! sg4crzn Posted May 10, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 10, 2004 I AGREE THAT COST MAYA IS AN UPGRADE TO KEY WEST. NOT MUCH FOR KIDS BUT DO LIKE MEL FISHERS MUSEUM. TAKE THE KIDS TO THE BEACH AND SNORKLE. I KNOW THAT CARNIVAL OFFERS A BEACH EXCURSION BUT SOMEONE WILL PROBABLY OFFER ADVICE ON DOING THE BEACH ON YOUR OWN CHEAPER. WE ARE GOING ON THE JUNE 19 SAILING GLORY. ITS MY 40TH. WHAT A GREAT WAY TO CELEBRATE A BIRTHDAY. PLUS WE BOOKED A CAT 8C AND GOT UPGRADED TO CAT 11 CLOSE TO THE ATRIUM. I HAVE HEARD THAT SOME OF THE SUITE CEILINGS SQUEAK SO HOPEFULLY THIS WON'T BE MY CABIN. HAPPY CRUISING

OSUcruiser Posted May 10, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Hi All! We are also sailing on Glory on 6/19. We are okay with costa maya. We don't know what we will do there, but that is okay! There are quite a few Buckeyes on this sailing! I am ready to go! Karen Glory - June 19, 2004
Littlegoo75 Posted May 11, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Personally, I would be bummed if they switched the itinerary on me. We LOVE Key West - but then again, we love to bar hop, and we love those conch fritters! Gaminer Posted May 13, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 13, 2004 If i am not mistaken there was a thread about the dropped port earlier in the week....seems its a glitch with Carnivals computers...Costa Maya is still on the iteneray, we're looking forward to it. sg4crzn Posted May 13, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 13, 2004 My travel agent called carnival and the ship is going to costa maya on Monday. Have read some good comments about costa maya and looking foreward to the beach. There must be a problem with the carnival site.
Logic Posted May 14, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 14, 2004 Good To Hear Carnival Swapped A Port For A Port....We Just Returned From Our 1st Cruise With Celebrity On The Horizon & They Removed A Port ( St. Marrten ) & Never Replaced It....They Also Cut Our 1st Port Stop( Cozumel ) Down From 8 Hours To 4 Hours. We Ended Up With 3 Straight Sea Days On The Way Home. My Next Cruise Will Be Back With Carnival Or Princess. Littlegoo75 Posted May 14, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 14, 2004 AHHHHH!!!! Please tell me that in November the Glory will be going to Key West again....If it skips Key West than I am choosing another cruise - I was going to book this week, I might have to put it off for awhile now. I don't want to go to Progresso anyway, so if there is no Key West, there will be no Glory for me. Carnival says it's a glitch in their website; Costa Maya is still on. It's been like this for a few days now, you'd think they could fix it. But, NO -- instead they've now made my SUNDAY and FRIDAY (both sea days) disappear as well.
