Hand luggage or cases

I would definitely put mine in my hand luggage even with the best care on packing suitcases I have seen how they are thrown about by port handlers. The last thing I would want is my entire contents of my suitcase smelling of whisky. Dont think it is worth the risk.

Is there a potential loophole here?  Could you put 1L in both your hand luggage and your main case?

Yes and yes. But remember it's 1 litre per passenger not per cabin, so that could make 4 litres in total.

And if you had 2 cases each then 6L?

I've not travelled on P&O - just Cunard who don't have the same restriction - though saying that on P&O the drinks prices are much cheaper anyway so less of a problem.
