Removal of foot stools from CC and AQ on Equinox

My goodness.  We've taken almost 25 cruises and I can honestly say that I have no idea if we've ever had/not had footstools.  I also cannot tell you which have had the bed by the bathroom and which have had the bed by the balcony.  These are topics I see on here all the time that have ZERO impact on our cruise experience or decision making.  To each his/her own.

Completely agree. We don't come to a cruise to spend time in a cabin.

But are Azamara advertising they do provide footstools on any balcony? And are they charging more for those suites but not providing those loungers? I think that’s the main point of the whole thread: paying extra for advertised amenities that are no longer being provided.

You are right. This thread had morphed a bit now that I read through, but Azamara don't advertise footstools as an amenity in any cabin. Truth be told, because of the design of the balcony with a rail you can still put your feet up, even though the balconies aren't as deep as Celebrity.  I can understand though that if it's there as a description then it should be there.

All the Kelly Hoppen influences seem to be minimalist and not very comfy. The seating in the Retreat looks like kid furniture and I guess this is being followed through.

I'm no happier than anyone else on the balcony furniture changes, but can't really view it as a "cutback".  It's just another result of Kelly (I've never actually sailed on a cruise ship) Hoppen's passenger unfriendly design.  If X was looking to save money on refurbishment they could (and should) have just left the old balcony furniture alone.  From our experience it was always in excellent condition.

We are disappointed that they are doing away with the footstools. Now there is one more  reason for us to not to book Concierge cabins any more. We will buy some inflatable ones and book a larger balcony. We do spend a lot of time relaxing on our balcony especially on sea days. We love doing transatlantic cruises, so a larger balcony will be nice.

Which is fine for you but for those of us who do intend to spend time in our cabin (or more specifically on our balcony)....

When we were young and first cruised it was about destinations and activities now it is more about rest and relaxation....If your cabin is somewhere to sleep and shower, that’s fine...But take on board for many that cabin, it’s fixtures and fittings is a big focus of the occupants cruising pleasure...

Our balcony is huge for us, as above we cruise for relaxation and use it a lot from breakfast, to time during the day, to the evening both before and after our meal. To be honest we would book an inside and save a ton of money otherwise.

This from a cruiseline that likes to refer to itself as "luxury"...…  luxury does not mean filling your suitcase with items that should already be in your rooms....next thing you knew they will forget to order the mattresses and we'll all be dragging along those blow up mattresses too and I bet they wouldn't even provide a pump to blow it up...….:classic_biggrin:

Celebrity Cruises is proud to announce a new service to enhance your comfort and well-being; instead of bringing your own pump for your inflatable mattress, you can now avail yourself of our "Pump Butler" services.  For a nominal fee, you can have your bed inflated for you prior to your evening turn in.  Sky suite and above will find this service included; other stateroom categories can purchase an unlimited package (great for afternoon nappers) or a la carte services.

Lately I must confess that I sometimes wonder if Celebrity is making the balcony experience less pleasant, comfortable, and welcoming is that folks like myself spend too much time out there. While there, we are not out in the ship spending money. We peacefully read or dose on our balconies and do not patronize bars, the casino, play bingo, buy items in the shops, attend shopping lectures or art auctions.

We just bliss out on our balconies enjoying the ocean air privately. We really aren't very profitable passengers, but I thought that is why Celebrity makes up for it by charging us more to be on our special balconies. Now they are still charging us more, but taking away the comfortable amenities we so much appreciate. I hope other cruiselines do not get the same idea.

Oh I have definitely thought this.

There have been reports that people have been told this by personnel on the ship.  Their marketing materials for the "Revolution" also stress that they want people to mingle more.  It's undoubtedly being done on purpose.  If you don't like it, be sure to let them know about it directly.

I find this rather... irritating.

I don't really need Celebrity to decide for me how much time they want me to spend (or not spend) in my cabin.

I want a cruise line, not a social engineering experiment.

Many of those that are ridiculing the footstool and etc don’t understand that it was one of the listed amenities for AQ.  You book a cruise and pay extra over a veranda because it lists them  and then when boarding and getting to your cabin you are told that they were eliminated.   Those items plus the other fluff  is what X promotes to justify the higher cost.  If you aren’t getting them then it is false promotion and fraud.

X has done  the same with the Bev pack.  You book a cruise and choose the classic Bev pack that lists many types of liquor.    You get on board and are told that it is no longer in the Classic and you need to upgrade.  Or you choose all 4 perks as you wanted the premium pack and internet.   You get on board and are told that those brands in the premium  are no longer available and the internet  was basically in limbo as it was on our cruise on the Infinity.   There were many times it would just spin for long periods  with no connection.

You choose the SBC.   You use to be able to cash the unused amount it in at the casino for a 5% fee.   Can’t do that anymore.   You need to play it.  Don’t try betting black and red on the roulette or even using the CC match play coupon with it. And when using SBC you don’t get any casino points, for what they are worth.

Petty?  Maybe but give me what I paid for and expected.

Does X care.   Don’t think so because their appreciation of past loyal customers is phony.   They don’t care if you sail with them again as they will continue to fill up the ships with many new to sailing that don’t know any better, until they become seasoned cruisers.

Is it justifiable because other cruise line do the same?   Not in my book.   The mores isn’t justification when I paid for it or justify anything in my life or morals.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

Very well expressed,

More and more cruisers are coming over to X from other lines and have no idea what has been taken away...,,apparently some of the other cruise lines are worse!

Hoppen likes pillows but most real X cruisers prefer a nice balcony table and chairs with footstools!  Hope X  listens!

Whilst thinking about this and everyone’s personal preferences, I’ve decided I’d like to swap the “Drinks Package’ for a lounger on my balcony please .

A drinks package is no biggie for us as we don’t drink alcohol, nor a lot of soft drinks to be honest. But what we do do is look forward to and immensely enjoy , sitting comfortably on our balcony, legs comfortably elevated , enjoying some of the spectacular views ( or watching the backs of our eyelids) .  To hear that the footstools have been revolutionaryily removed is hugely annoying, frustrating, disappointing and any other word you want to use.

I also am concerned about getting lounge chairs above the pool deck now that deck 16 is the Retreat Sundeck. What a shame- we truly love this ship!

I have never been on Equinox but I am curious - isn't the pool on 12 and then there is deck 14 with seating?  Deck 16 seems somewhat far away from the pool.  Is that your goal for seating?  Like I said truly curious.

So? That makes everyone else wrong????  I think not.

Not at all. That makes it my opinion and my priorities. Other people might obviously have different opinions and preferences. Doesn't make any of us right or wrong.

Maybe they will add a 5th perk choice - the "Extinct Amenities Plus" with footstools, reclining chairs, table big enough for room service on the balcony, small bottles of toiletries and big, fluffy towels. Sadly, I would choose it (though unlike you, I wouldn't give up my drink package). 😉

I agree with you 100%.  Perhaps all of the cutbacks show the real cost of the drink package.

it will generate good revenue, with so much demands from this board.😄

Well after reading this thread I called the family member that booked our NOV cruise on the EQUINOX and said people are on here saying the AC cabins aren't receiving priority embarkation, daily water ECT. My family member is a loooooong time cruiser of X and isn't worried. They think it'll be worked out by the time we get there.

I have a question. Can you take the table from inside the cabin and put it on the balcony to make a bigger table/foot stool? I don't cruise often but I love eating on the balcony in peace, this is important for me when cruising.
