Cash for Persian Gulf?

We are doing a cruise from Dubai in December visiting Abu Dhabi, Sir Bani Yas and Muscat (Oman). Do we need local cash or will Visa Card and U.S $ or Euro work?

 

We have never been to this part of the world.

I used my US credit cards in the UAE with no issues.  In Muscat, pretty sure they accepted various currencies including UAE and Euro.  Enjoy your cruise, it's a facinating part of the world.

We carried some local currency, but mostly used Visa.

I highly doubt USD would work, and IMHO it's pretty insulting to the vendor to think that they'd be accepted outside the US--with the exception of Niagara Falls, the Bahamas, and some ports in parts of the Caribbean.

Do you KNOW or do you THINK? What someone think doesn't matter. There's several places that accept Euro or U.S $ that normaly doesn't use them.
When I was in Egypt the advise was to bring U.S $ and not Egyptian Pound...
