Looking for activities in Saint John, Bar Harbor, and Halifax for kids, ages 4 & 7.  I am not familiar with any of these ports except that there is a lot of sight seeing.  I'm looking for things that might be more interactive for the kids... something along the shoreline that involve finding sea treasures/creatures, caves, animals, etc that don't require us to be on a boat, as we may get seasick.  We are from Hawaii and our cruises mainly have been in the Caribbean and the Pacific Coast but wanted to explore somewhere different. We will be cruising mid July.

Here is information about Halifax for Cruise ship passengers

Check out the Halifax waterfront or consider renting a car and going to a nearby beach.

The Fisheries Museum in Lunenburg would be ideal but it is about an hour each way by car.

Great information on this website!  Thanks for posting.

Hi. In Bar Harbor walk over to the "bar." Interesting to explore. It's the land bridge that appears for a few hour twice a day at low tide. Easy walk from tender and fascinating for youngsters. Don't stay too long and watch the tide. You would probably also have time to walk to the village green (a few blocks) and hop on the Island Explorer bus. Take the one to Sand Beach. Great Maine beach. Fun for play. Walking trails nearby too. Bonus....all of this is free! Stop by a shop and grab some snacks for the beach on the way to the bus.

The Maritime Museum in Halifax is near the ship, within easy walking distance. It keeps adults interested and has things for kids. Check out the parrot!  Walk there via the boardwalk along to harbor. There is fun stuff to see (and buy).

The Discovery Centre (Science Centre) in Halifax would be a lot of fun for your kids.  It is really close to the cruise port - only a short walk away.  We have a 3-yr-old grandson who absolutely loves it there.  It is all indoors (which could be perfect for a rainy day).  Be sure to check out the Halifax waterfront boardwalk if you prefer an outdoor walk, there is a playground, some hammocks, food vendors, souvenir shops, restaurants, etc.  Hope you have fun on your cruise!
