Any Smoke Free Cruise ships?

Recommended Posts

As an ex-smoker (last Saturday marked four years smoke-free!), I can look at this from both sides.

It became increasingly more difficult to find somewhere to smoke and, with a non-smoking wife, had to be selective. It was always outside on the porch and never in the car! We sailed with NCL as I could smoke (originally) on the balcony an in the casino. This got more restrictive as time went on and I would always go to the casino after she went to be so I could sit with a drink and smoke until the wee hours!

After I quit, the very next cruise was with X, a line I always admired but wouldn't sail on because of the smoking policy! Now, of course, I love X and enjoy the non-smoking aspect.

I can accept that there are areas that I won't go, and I'm ok with that. I believe smokers DO have the right to smoke (as long as they are reasonably considerate) and I'll find somewhere else to park if I want. I certainly wouldn't be whining and complaining about it!

If someone happens to smoke a cigarette on their balcony, I wouldn't be rushing to drop a dime on them. I'm not, and never will be, perfect. If they  did it all the time and stopped me being able to use my balcony for the entire cruise, that's different.

Live and let live, people.

Gotta run, my popcorn's getting cold!

I have never taken issue with someone's opinion on CC, but for someone who has had a group smoking on the balcony next to us, I alerted my cabin steward at the first opportunity. We could smell the smoke in our cabin at times. When this failed to get results, when it happened again on the second day, I contacted guest services. I paid extra for a balcony, and expect to be able to use it whenever I want not fearing for my health and safety. They were also obnoxious with their language and overall behavior. That I can live with by just telling them to cool it. There are reasons these rules exist. After we alerted guest services, the smoking stopped (at least while we were on our balcony or in our cabin). They made remarks about us, after that calling us 'narcs', but that is only words, and I couldn't care less about words.

By the way, congrats on four years smoke free!

Celebrity is definitely diminishing the smoking areas on the newer ships. On Edge there are only two smoking areas on the entire ship vs. 4 on S class (3 I think on Reflection). For the pool area they actually tried to strike a nice balance by creating an elevated smoking area that created a little distance from the pool and was a dead end so that non-smokers wouldn't have to walk through it to get anywhere. Unfortunately it was poorly designed as there was an air vent at the back of the smoking area that was sucking all the smoke out and depositing it in the adjacent Solarium. So then they moved that smoking area to the other side of the pool deck, still elevated but now a pass through for a stairway. At least they tried...

If you are ever unfortunate enough to have this happen again, don’t waste time alerting your cabin steward.  He or she is in the unenviable position of being asked by one cabin to report another.  They want to please and need good reviews and hope for extra tips.  Call Guest Services right away.

This is enough for us to make Celebrity a priority in future cruise planning. Second-hand smoke really bothers us, and it was a major problem on two previous cruises (Carnival and NCL Breakaway). On Carnival all the good outdoor seating areas were dominated by smokers - also casino, of course. While we enjoyed Breakaway as a whole we won't go back - smoking from the casino drifted to many other areas, and smoke from cigar bar ruined others. We have stopped booking balcony cabins because of so many bad experiences with smokers. Times have changed, and Celebrity has the right idea. Our most recent cruise was on Disney - no casino, no indoor smoking, and limited outdoor smoking that was easy to avoid.

There"s a NEW...and ONLY ONE, smoking Area, on all Celebrity Ships. Reservations are a MUST, as space is VERY LIMITED....On All Ships, there will be a Small Dingy being Dragged behind the ship with a 1000 foot towline(Bring Rain Gear)......😂😂😂😂

Won’t work.......there will be someone to complain the smoke drifted back to their balcony and ruined their cruise.

On our Summit cruise last October, we actually saw someone vaping INSIDE the ship. They were sitting just outside the Reflection bar area in one of the short hallways. He was taking tiny little drags off it so it didn’t show much vapor but we caught him several times. One of our group went to get Security but they didn’t show up in time. This guy was in a wheelchair & looked like death warmed over but he was still vaping. We saw him the next day outside just vaping it up like there was no tomorrow.

Viking is totally non-smoking. We got their latest Ocean brochure the other day & saw that in their list of what Viking is not. It doesn’t seem to be a problem for them as their cruises seem to constantly be sold out.

We were on the Viking Sky in January, and they DID have a smoking section outside on top of the ship. So inside is 100% non-smoking, but not the entire ship.

Well dang! That’s not what their brochure says. Maybe they are eliminating it?

I just looked up the page on what Viking is not and you are right, it does say no smoking. Strange because there was definitely a smoking area with ash trays and several chairs filled with smokers IN THE SNOW on the top deck. Getting rid of smoking completely would be great! If that is their new policy, they should be making a big deal about it!

New policy. See this photo. Their latest brochure. Starts soon.

Wow! That is a great change in their policy. We have a cruise booked with them next year. Thanks to you both for the update! Will love our next cruise with them even more!

Sorry to burst the bubble, but I just talked to my Viking agent who talked to Operations. Viking has NO PLANS to eliminate the smoking areas on top of any of their Viking Ocean ships. It makes no sence that Viking, in their own website and print brochures, would list no smoking as a reason to book their ships, when their actual policy is no different than 90% of the cruiselines. 😕

I completely agree with this post.  I am a smoker (hopefully soon to be an ex-smoker) but I can not stand the smoke indoors in any restaurant, bar or casino.  In 2017 we were on the Freedom of the seas and the casino was unbearable.  I did not even have to light up, there was enough smoke for everyone.

While I do like RCI, I much prefer the non-smoking casinos, and frankly all smoke free indoor venues, on Celebrity.

Edit: I thought I quoted another post where the poster stated that they could not believe that any ships still allow smoking indoors.
