We met our guide and driver , Bessa , and stopped not far away

She scooped up some of the running water and we toasted the day , the place and each others company

It was still foggy when we left

Which way do we go ?

Through the mountain of course

When we exited the tunnel it was like Dorothy opening the door from inside the black and white house to look at the color of OZ

Thank you for your wonderful,  comprehensive review. Love your pix and commentary. I also found the script font hard to read. I am also on an iPad but I am not sure that was the problem. Compared to the original font the script appeared smaller and fainter. Gray rather than black, which did make it harder to read.  Either way, keep up the review! Iceland is on my bucket list and your review is only confirming that for me. Thx.

You're welcome . We had used our favorite font for a long time with no issues until October when CC made some upgrades . I guess it's different on phones and we saw a difference on DW's ipad . Another change that occurred in October is that my videos on my older topics change from the original to my most recently posted video on all of them - weird . We only have 1 stop left in Iceland , but it's an overnight .

In the distance we could see Dynjandi

IMG_6133%202_zpsgohgobgo.jpg

It is a series of 6 waterfalls and the largest at the top being described as a wedding cake or a wedding veil

IMG_0596%202_zpslkrkp2xd.jpg

The upper waterfall is about 100 M or about 300' . We could see that we would have a lot of glare and sunlight in our face that would reduce the quality of the photos .

We left Bessa in the parking lot to begin our climb

I believe I spotted some lambs!  Spectacular pics and videos.

And thank you for even caring about the font.

We didn't realize how popular sheep were here but they were all around like in Patagonia . We would like for you to be able to read all about it Cat .

More waterfalls and climbing ahead

It was about this point that we encountered the Midges small swarming bugs that flew into your eyes , ears and nostrils . So far , so good with the climb . Please note the difference in the sky and the colors in the photos when we look up toward the water fall or back toward the valley and parking lot

Our knees and the groups of people pushing past us on the steep , scree covered trail told us that this should be our turn around point

Pondering the descent and enjoying the view

As we were going down and a group going up you can see a head net on the first guy and some midges on the camera lens in this video :

Almost there , we can see the bathrooms on the left

We had reached our turnaround point

DSC08662_zpsieflufjj.jpg

Our next stop was a museum at Hrafnseyri which Pat and I walked thru alone

DSC00634_zpss0plhwij.jpg

It was basically a time line showing World History with Icelandic History interwoven

DSC08639%202_zpsmbkdaglt.jpg

Toward the end we could hear some talking and singing

And as it turned out , we were there on the 17th of June

DSC08637%203_zpsesiiduoi.jpg

Which is the birthday of Jón Sigurðsson , the leader of Iceland's move to independence from Denmark . This is also his birthplace and the day is Icelandic National Day ( Independence Day )
