Carnival Sunrise POSITIVITY POST!!!!

People, I am SO bummed with all the horrible reviews about Sunrise. Between the overcrowding, casino smoke and sewage smell that is apparently permeating the entire ship, I'd love to cancel, but I didn't buy the insurance so I'm stuck. That said, does anyone have anything positive to say?? I get it that it's "the worst ship ever" and "smells like a toilet" and it takes 2 hours to get lunch - that blows. But some of us still have to sail on this ship and it would be nice to have something to look forward to.....so who has something positive to say?? Let's keep this thread to only shiny happy Sunrise thoughts and pictures! Help a sister out!

Well, even though I haven't sailed on her yet, I would love to comment on how she sails from my homeport! I love how she now has a ropes course, and waterslides. I also love how she has Cucina del Capitano!

If you go into it hoping to have fun, you probably will.  People post similar things about the Sunshine all the time- it's been my favorite ship so far.  So you never know, til you try it for yourself. What matters to other people may not matter to you.  And you may not notice what others do.

Also, I see you're not sailing until September.  By that point, most schools are going to be back in session and the ship is likely going to be less crowded.  Read summer reviews on most ships, and you'll see a lot more mentions about the crowding than you do on reviews written in say early December, or February.  That's not to say some ships don't handle crowds better than others- they do.  But the problem is worse when kids are off school and sailing.

The sewage smell tends to come and go- I think I've smelled it at some point on very cruise I've been on.  Sometimes it lingers, sometimes it's quick.  That's not a Sunrise only thing, I don't think.

I was on the June 20 cruise.  Don't worry about it.  It is all about expectations.  WE HAD A VERY GOOD TIME!

My review and comments on the crowd flow, smoke, etc. are just relative to my other cruise experiences, which I liked better.  There was nothing that made me consider complaining to the crew or to Carnival.  They can make improvements, but all of the basics that make us enjoy cruising are there.  You will be fine.  Enjoy.

We are actually sailing August 19th, which is why I am a little worried about crowds. I usually have a really good attitude about things, so I'm surprised the negativity is bringing me down so much. I'm really trying to rally. Thanks for the cheerleading! ❤️

We are headed out on August 19th, and maybe it's crowded or maybe it smells, but it is not me sitting at my desk, slogging my 9-10 hour work day, so anything I do that week will be amazing.

it will be what you make of it as well. I feel like some people are just looking for things to be negative about, and I'm not that kind of person, so I will find the positive in it and i'll have a great time no matter what.

Don't worry about them and their negativity..

You keep thinking like this until August, they will have turned you and you will not have a good time.

You will have FUN.

I heard the same things when I sailed on the Sunshine and yet my family had a great time.   We are sailing on the Sunrise at the end of July and looking forward to it.  I hope you have a wonderful time and don't let the negativity get to you - you are going on a cruise!!!

  1. You can completely avoid the casino smoke by walking across on deck 6.  You won't smell it anywhere else on deck 5.
  2. We did no smell any sewage.
  3. It's not the worst ship ever.  It's clean and bright and the crew is fantastic.
  4. There's no possible way it could take 2 hours for lunch if you're flexible.  There are many food options and lunch is served over several hours.
  5. Yes, sometimes the buffet lines get long, because there are only 2 of them, and no one wants to pass someone if there is space ahead, but it's manageable.

Thank you for posting this, because I have been feeling the same way.  Trying to stay positive, but some of these reviews have been brutal.

My friend and I will be on her in September.  I haven’t cruised Carnival in almost 20 years.  My friend invited me to join her and I was happy to accept.  I am a planner and do all the research.  That can be a blessing and a curse.  Sometimes, ignorance is bliss.  Unfortunately, I can’t unsee what I’ve read about the Sunrise.  I have decided not to share any of this with my friend.  It’s too late now to get out of it.  So, we will go and I am sure we will have fun.  It is cruise after all.

I hope you enjoy your cruise, as well.

I'll be sailing on the Sunrise August 27th, and I was also a bit bummed reading all the negative reviews. Then I thought about it and it is what you make of it. I look at it this way; if I'm looking for something to complain about that is exactly what I will find. It's a vacation, I have nowhere I need to be, so if I have to wait a little longer than I want to for lunch it's not a big deal. Every ship I've every been on the smell of smoke was overwhelming anywhere near the casino, so I just expect it now.

I hope you have a great vacation, I know I will (stinky smells and all:classic_biggrin:).

I posted this somewhere on CriseCritic.
My review which may be good or bad.
I still had a good time and if you are with FUN people, then you WILL enjoy the cruise.

I stayed on Riviera Deck Midship. No balcony but spacious except for the shower.

There was a lack of storage space and Small tiny nightstands. We moved the life vests and placed them under the bed so we could use the closet space. It had a nice size tv, we just watched ship cameras or ship location channels. Only used one electrical outlet to plug in our multiport gadget to charge our electronics. The toilet made an unusual sound of a long foghorn after flushing and since I use the toilet 4 times during the night, I thought would wake everyone on my side of the ship. There were no complaints, thankfully. And of course our stewards were courteous and friendly. There was garbage odor on some elevators and smoke throughout the Casino.

Deck 3 and 4 were were a pain since at one point or another, a restaurant blocked the front to aft part of the deck. Our Time Dining we requested same waiter Camilo. He is GREAT. Sang songs and danced on some nights. Really great and funny individual. Request for a table he manages and you wont be disappointed. I selected foods I knew I liked so To me, the food was good.

Im not a sun worshipper so I wont comment on the pools and chairs. The jogging track is a bit small but I enjoyed the Rope Course. It was complicated at first due to my big gut, but once I got the know how, it was a piece of cake with a bit of sweat of course.

Guys Burgers are delicious, the pizza is so-so. Breakfast is same each day with no variety. Had to skip the Midnight Buffet with the Ice And food sculptures due to the mob trying to take pix and the LINE seeming endless. But Im sure it was delicious. ( I didnt gain any weight that night)

Bartenders and staff introduced me to some delicious drinks. There were a couple good shows with the singing and dancers but wasnt interested in hypnotism and card tricks. The good seating area in the Liquid Lounge is small. There are poles blocking the way, lighting fixtures if youre too high up, and cant see the stage at all if youre anywhere to the side of the stage.

Remodeled and all, from 1 to 5, I rate the ship a 3.

Fun Factor I rate the ship a 3 as well.

Friendliness I rate it a 5

There were not enough sanitizers and people were hardly using the ones available.

I rate cleanliness a 4.

I hear you!  I have the same situation with my cousin/cabinmate who says that "I know everything" and that she would rather be surprised.  My take is that if I know ahead of time what to be aware of I can plan so we can make the most of our time on board and not be frustrated by crowded areas and come away unhappy.  There are alternatives to going to the buffet everyday and I will be sure that we avail ourselves of them.  I plan to try all the included alternatives where possible during the sailing.

I agree with you.  I am not going to tell my friend all of the negatives, but I am going to tell her that people are reporting that the buffet line is extraordinarily long and we should avoid it. We will choose an alternative, especially for breakfast.

With regard to the rest of it, we will figure it out together.  I don’t want to be “Debby Downer” or a know it all.  Nobody likes that.

I found that smoke is a huge problem on all cruise ships. That will not change until they ban all smoking in the casinos. As for long buffet lines, that too is inherently on all Carnival ships that are set up with one line, rather than stations. It has not been a deterrent tome, as there are so many other places to grab lunch. And even if a long line, who in their right mind would stand in a buffet line for 2 hours? I think whoever said that, it was a gross exaggeration. Now, as for sewer smell. Sewer is held on a ship, like an RV, until it can be emptied. Sometimes the gases float up through drains in floor (when out on a deck) or in the bathroom (near shower) It can be remedied by pouring water down these drains. It has never been an issue on any of my cruises. On my last cruise, I noticed it coming up the vent by the Tides Bar on 10aft on the Breeze. I just moved on. Don’t worry about your trip on the Sunrise. She looks like a perfectly refit of the Triumph, which I sailed in 2007.

We sailed the Sunrise May 23rd and had a great time. The ship is beautiful and the crew was some of the best we have ever had. We don't usually eat at the buffet so can't help on that one but there are plenty of options to avoid it. On embarkation day we went to the BBQ and had no line while everyone went to lido. Sea day brunch in the dining room was always fast with no wait. Don't let others negatively affect your vacation before it starts.  We are sailing her again this Tuesday for 8 days and couldn't be more excited.
