BTW and OT I've told the mothers of our grandchildren (boys and girls) that if anyone gets a Ken or Barbie doll their college fund goes away.

How wonderful of you to interfere with their parenting.  I bet you're very well-liked by those mothers. /sarc

As for standards of decorum, there ARE standards.  I would not expect to see the same things on a Spring Break Carnival cruise as on an off-season Princess cruise.  Have some decency, especially when there are children aboard.  Or take a Bare Necessities cruise and don't worry about it -- the standards are different based on the demographic.  We should all have some respect for others.

I just wish the search worked better. I have read the FAQ info and other help, but it still can be very frustrating.

I was on a food site where the search function sucked.  We all learned to Google.  For instance "cruise critic food on princess."

You can also limit a Google search to a single website.

Type site: and the site id.

So site:boards.cruisecritic.com [then your search terms]  will search only the Cruise Critic forums.

Ooh, thanks a lot for that tip.  That's going to come in handy on a couple of sites.

Not a cruise ship, but the night ferry from Jersey back to the UK.

The pilot boat came out to escort us, then it caught fire.  They had a fire in the engine compartment.  The ferry stopped and went into rescue mode.  Announcements to staff of what to do and for us to sit down and keep out the way.  Our crew fired off flares and started launching a boat.  They also got fire equipment and hoses out.  Meanwhile the RNLI (the UK lifeboat service) sent out one of tie inflatables - wow! can those things move!

By the time the RNLI got to the pilot boat, the crew of the pilot boat had put the fire out.  Our ferry then started up again and we carried on without a pilot.

Because it was night time it was particularly interesting, with the fire and flares and who knew the RNLI boats have a blue flashing light like the emergency services?

This first story was a horrific incident. The first night, our family went to listen to the live band and there was an older couple who could dance magnificently on the dance floor. Everyone was cheering them on, but all of a sudden the gentleman stopped and fell over backwards. He was right by us and I was the first to reach him. He was having a heart attack. The band stopped and someone ran for the medics. There were two paramedics in the audience that rushed over to help. I attend his wife who was going into shock. They had to turn the boat around and take us back to Cape Canaveral for medical evacuation. The captain was kind enough to report the next day that he had made it to the hospital in time and was expected to recover fully. It really freaked us out since it was our first cruise and the first night!

But another funny story was at the sexiest man alive contest. There were several young men without shirts and this one older man who was bald wearing a long sleeve, long pants track suit. The young men did their prancing and then it was this guy's turn. He unzipped the jacket and flung it off to reveal an "Arnold Schwarzenegger" chest. He then turned around and bent over and ripped off the pants to reveal a speedo. He had the entire act down to perfection. I wondered if he wasn't paid by the RCL cruise line to participate or if he was a former Chippendales dancer! The younger men got down on their knees and started bowing to him because he completely blew them out of the water! I don't think I've ever laughed so hard!

About twenty years ago my wife and I were on our first cruise on the Ocean Princess. During an snorkelling excursion in Martinique, our captain decided to take the long way back to the ship by going past a topless beach. Pretty much everyone at the beach and in the water was in their senior years. I joked with my wife that the ladies in the water didn't need life jackets...🤣

First day of a cruise a few (<5) years ago.  We were in an area where 2 rows of deck loungers were facing each other.  My wife and I found loungers and sat down.  After getting situated I looked across from me at a guy in the skimpy and tight type of swimsuit common in Europe.  It appeared he was sleeping and one of his "boys" had popped out to have a look around... :classic_ohmy:

LOL, what a balls up.

He might have been a plant.

In China it is very common to see people wearing T shirts with profanities on them. The thing is most Chinese don't know what the words mean and only bought them because they were a cheap buy at a market stall. I don't think a lot of Chinese know of the "rude T shirt" market that exists in the West since such a market doesn't exist in China. They just assume the words are innocuous😳

There's a popular line of clothing in Quebec (province) that goes "[F-WORD] LA MODE".  In Quebecois French, F-word doesn't mean what it does in English; it's a mild expletive that means "down with" or to "to heck with", comparable to "damn" or "crap" in English.  And "la mode" means fashion/trends.  I guess it's one of those ironic youth brands, where fashion is used to denounce fashion trends.  Similarly, there once was a "F-C-U-K" clothing line; everybody and their brother wore it when I was in high school.  It was made by French Connection of United Kingdom.

Crazy but true... Way back in 1970s  when I was a teenager, on my namesake cruise liner..T.S.S. Reina del Mar, a drunken crew member decided he wanted a swim. Instead of the crew pool, he apparently leapt into the Mediterrranean Sea.  Didn't see him jump.

Captain explained someone had been reported to have jumped, over PA system, turned the ship around, lowered a lifeboat and rescued the man. Did see the rescue and man wrapped in blankets as he was returned onboard. ...One very lucky man.

Still have photographs but not clever enough to post them !

We were told he was put in the isolation hospital on the ship (AKA jail cell) and his contract  terminated when we reached Southampton.

I recall a little old lady who was never seen without her boxy orange life jacket on.
She was easily seen spotted.
Glad to say, it turned out she didn't need it!

I too have witnessed a table-mate drop their head into their mashed potato. Fortunately, she was a quiet drunk.

The comments above have focused on the passengers. When it comes to crew, I never cease to be amazed at their gaffs. Especially frequent howlers in the published daily programs. Thank goodness, I've never come across a mistake from the bridge!

That's funny, just maybe not funny ha-ha.  I don't remember where I heard or read this, but... "While drinking at dinner, a lightweight will fall asleep with their face in the appetizer; a high-tolerance drunk will fall asleep with their face in the dessert."

Where as a true drunk will make it through to the dance floor.

Actually, with a true drunk, you will never realize they are drunk, until you see them sober.
