Another wine question

Recommended Posts

We are flying to Seattle (to do some business) and then driving to Vancouver to catch the northbound 7 day Alaskan cruise on Jewel at the end of July.  Since we will be crossing the boarder by car, I am wondering of we will have an issue with customs if we try and bring wine for our cruise?

It might help to know how many bottles of vino you are planning to celebrate on board.

NCL will of course charge the $15 corkage fee for each bottle no limits here.

Canadian Customs - will allow you to bring at least one bottle per person across the border - - -

Will need an answer about that

But I think having two bottles per person would not be out of line - total of 4 for your party/family.

Wine maybe taxed or considered on a different lesser scale than hard high proof liquor.

Just make sure to declare it in transit across the border.

If this poses a real problem there are wine packages to be purchased on board.

How much wine can you take into Canada?
U.S. citizens crossing the border into Canada to visit are allowed to bring the following item quantities into Canada duty free: 1.5 liters of wine, or 1.14 liters (40 ounces) of liquor, or 24 cans or bottles of beer. 1 carton (200 cigarettes), up to 50 cigars, and 200g of loose tobacco.
.....or just go into a liquor shop in Vancouver and buy there.  https://www.everythingwine.ca/wine-sales

Thanks for the reply.  The link to the wine shop is probably the best option.  I like California Chardonnays and would like a few “special” bottles to take on the ship.

The duty or tax on excess wine is $0.30.  I cross the boarder all the time with excess.  No issues.  They are really only looking for illegal items, fruits, meats, etc
