ebs0303 Posted July 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2019 We were looking at a Scottish Highlands tour, but I'm wondering if that is too similar to a Loch and Highlands tour from Greenock . we are now thinking of maybe just going to Inverness for the day . Any suggestions suggestions on the best way to spend the Port day from Invergordon?
tartanexile81 Posted July 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2019 (edited) The countryside is quite different IMO. If you look at the local tourism website you will get some ideas. Popular things to do without a guide / using local public transport or taking taxis include visiting a whisky distillery, visiting Dunrobin Castle or even trying to spot the Loch Ness Monster. http://www.visitinvergordon.com Personally I wouldn't spend too long in Inverness. ebs0303 Posted July 5, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted July 5, 2019 Good to know the scenery is different. Our main thing is we wouldn't want to be redundant and sounds like the Northern highlands probably wouldn't be. Thx!
rocklinmom Posted July 6, 2019 #4 Share Posted July 6, 2019 We just did the British Isles cruise and in Invergordon we went to Urquhart Castle, which was really cool and overlooks Loch Ness so you can "look for" Nessie. Inverness was a cute town but didn't look like much to do there. We also drove through some beautiful countryside and our guide pointed out heather flowers and sang songs to us in Gaelic, a memorable experience. If you do a Loch cruise or tour from Greenock it would be Loch Lomond (not Loch Ness) if that makes a difference.
Rare geoherb Posted July 7, 2019 #5 Share Posted July 7, 2019 We enjoyed a tour that went to Urquhart Castle, a Loch Ness boat cruise, Clava Cairns, and Cawdor Castle. We passed through Inverness but did not stop there.
austenfiend Posted August 2, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 2, 2019 We booked a tour through WOW Scotland - Lock Ness, Inverness and Outlander tour - sites: Invergordon and Cromarty Firth, Beauly, Inverness, Loch Ness, Highlands, Clava Cairns (Outlander), Culloden Battlefield, Highland Cows. This tour came highly recommended by someone here on Cruise Critic. We'll be there in September.

austenfiend Posted January 6, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 6, 2020 We really enjoyed this tour. The countryside was beautiful and we were amazed at how they managed on those narrow, winding roads.

puppymama1 Posted January 29, 2020 #10 Share Posted January 29, 2020 That tour looks great, but are there any recommended tour operators that might combine tours to Loch Ness and the Macallan distillery? My husband would like to see both if possible when we are there... thanks!
