bill4105 Posted July 10, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2019 will the Carnival Glory & Valor be allowed to dock in New Orleans this week-end due to the tropical storm and current height?
mdsgu Posted July 10, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2019 Good question! They expect the river to be 1ft below the tops of the levees on Saturday. And, NOLA got 10" of rain just this morning.
Rare crewsweeper Posted July 10, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 10, 2019 Thus far the Port has issued no advisories. Probably not until Thursday/Thursday night as everyone is waiting to see if this potential TD becomes a real TD/ TS.

Rare crewsweeper Posted July 10, 2019 #8 Share Posted July 10, 2019 This article has an interesting graph on expected water levels for river over weekend. Looks pretty darn high to me. https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/severe-storms-trigger-flash-flood-emergency-around-new-orleans-as-much-more-rainfall-looms/70008778

TruckerDave Posted July 10, 2019 #10 Share Posted July 10, 2019 I'm going to say that checking with Carnival directly would probably be a better source of information than Facebook or here for that info. Or at the very least some sort of official word from Carnival on a social network site rather than relying on opinion and speculation.
chengkp75 Posted July 10, 2019 #11 Share Posted July 10, 2019 (edited) The USCG is intending to close the port of NOLA tomorrow. The last upbound ship was taken by the state pilots at 1200 today. I would say that the port/river will be closed through the weekend. My ship was scheduled to pick up a pilot Friday, we are now planning on anchoring at SW Pass. amy16_ Posted July 11, 2019 #12 Share Posted July 11, 2019 The Valor is being redirected to Mobile AL instead of NOLA. Of course Carnival has not released any info. This was from a passenger on Valor now.
NebraskaSatellite Posted July 11, 2019 #13 Share Posted July 11, 2019 Here's the NOLA port status, which also indicates Valor is diverting to Mobile. https://www.portnola.com/info/storm-update CRUISE OPERATIONS: The Carnival Valor, which was scheduled to sail a 4-day cruise to Mexico on Thursday, June 11, 2019 from New Orleans, is diverting to Mobile, Ala. Carnival guests may call 1 (800) 764-7419 for the latest information on their itineraries.

aztekpm Posted July 11, 2019 #15 Share Posted July 11, 2019 I didn't realize that Mobile could handle a conquest class/size ship. Interesting.

Conquest has actually been diverted there, before. I doubt that Carnival will ever homport a ship of that size there, though. Everybody knows that Mobile is where Carnival sends their ships to die. 😂

VolzCruiser Posted July 11, 2019 #23 Share Posted July 11, 2019 I know at one time there was an issue in Mobile with the area that ships use to turn around in. I believe they have expanded the turning basin or are planning to so they can accommodate larger ships.

It was dated yesterday, so I assume it went out not long after your post. New Orleans is sinkin' and I don't wanna swim...
